My first time contra dancing, i had a lot of fun and they were very welcoming and made it easy to learn.
It's always great to go dance! The people are friendly and it's not like any other dance I've tried. It's even easy to learn! I got hooked on my first lesson and I'll definitely go back!
Adorable place with great live music, a great instructor, tons of dancers---contra dancing is so much fun! Be a beautiful place to get married as well!
I came here for Contra dancing. The ladies who greeted me were super lovely, super friendly, and I was very grateful for their warmth. The atmosphere is perfect for this type of dancing. This is situated among many mature trees with large canopies. There's a small creek nearby. It was a great experience.
We've contra danced at River Falls Lodge four times since June. It has to be the best place to contra dance in the country in operation at this time.
The first time I visited, I had a great time. The last time, not so much. The woman calling the dance was in a terrible mood. She got mad at people for not following instructions she never even called out. One of the owners, a woman named Laurel, I believe, physically pushed me and my partner out of line while incorrectly stating it was our turn to be out. We had literally just gotten back in after taking our turn out, so this is impossible. Terrible atmosphere for people trying to learn to dance. My visit last summer was much better. I don't know what happened to these people.
Despite its name, this is not an actual lodge that offers housing, but rather a contra dance venue that is generously owned and operated by a private individual. The Harvest Moon Folk Society holds contra dances there on few Saturdays per month 1st & 3rd, and sometimes other weeks and their website Google it lists the dates when dances will be held. The property owner will allow individuals to camp overnight after the dance, which usually finishes rather late. The dance hall itself is rather funky with unusual paraphernalia decorating the walls and rafters, and the floor is comfortable to dance on since it is wooden. No air conditioning here, but there are plenty of fans and cool breezes coming off of the river that flows nearby. This is a gem of a place to dance.
