Riversdale, an elegant Federal home, was constructed between 1801 and 1807 for Henri Stier, a Flemish aristocrat, and completed by his daughter Rosalie and her husband George Calvert, grandson of the fifth Lord Baltimore. Today, this architectural gem has been restored to reflect the lifestyle of the Calverts in the early 19th century. Archaeology, archival records, and oral histories are used to provide modern-day visitors with a better understanding of 19th century life. Rosalie Calvert's letters are used to piece together the life of a gentry-class woman living in rural Maryland. Adam Francis Plummer, an enslaved man owned by the Calverts, wrote a rare first-person account of slavery. Their stories have been preserved and are retold at Riversdale.

The museum is open to the public for docent-guided tours and for a variety of special events. It may also be rented for weddings, receptions, luncheons, and business meetings. The Riversdale Historical Society, a volunteer organization, works with M-NCPPC staff to preserve the cultural heritage of Riversdale and maintain the mansion as an historic house.

Lovely space in Riverdale. Have not toured the house, but the grounds are a lovely place for a peaceful walk. They maintain a small kitchen garden and orchard, and it is fun to see the plants change through the season. There are a few tables near the parking area, and it is a nice place to sit for a quiet lunch.
Historical architectural landmark. Serene, quiet walk in the gardens. Nice area to read, write, meditate, pray. You can take a tour when the former plantation house is open. Take a bike ride, rest and have a picnic on the grass or at the picnic tables. Located in the heart of quaint Riverdale Park.
Just visited the grounds to have a walk and chat with a friend, and it's absolutely perfect for that. Lovely gardens and just a beautiful spot.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree
Why is Maryland preserving houses where Black people were enslaved, tortured and tormented?. These “historic” homes would be better used to sign Black People up to receive reparations and or give the deeds over to the Black Families whose ancestors and bloodline was forced to endure enslavement. Fix this now. It’s an actual shame.Reservation recommendedNo
Very interesting and often overlooked historical place. They have guided tours and various events. Can you believe the whole college park area was a plantation governed from this house?
Very interesting tour and our docent V was really knowledgeable and enthusiastic.
Beautifully restored mansion whose history represents the story of Maryland, its aristocratic immigrants and their relationship to enslaved persons on large plantation estates. Limited hours a day times. Check before you go.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$1–5
A glimpse into the past at Riversdale is a wonderful example of how life use to be. The grounds are well kept and the property brings a park like setting to Riverdale Park. There are jazz concerts in the summer and reenactments of the battle of Bladensburg. They have something new here every couple weeks. The mansion is a museum and offers tours during the week to drop ins during certain hours as well as school group field trips. They have a cannon take the tour for the proper name from the Ark/Dove ships that founded MD back in the 1600s! History is so cool!! Look this place up online. You won't be disappointed.
