Robert Moses Niagara Power Plant

Description

The Robert Moses Niagara Hydroelectric Power Station is a hydroelectric power station in Lewiston, New York, near Niagara Falls. Owned and operated by the New York Power Authority (NYPA), the plant diverts water from the Niagara River above Niagara Falls and returns the water into the lower portion of the river near Lake Ontario. It uses 13 generators at an installed capacity of.Named for New York city planner Robert Moses, the plant was built to replace power production after a nearby hydroelectric plant collapsed in 1956. It stands across the river from Sir Adam Beck Hydroelectric Power Stations in Ontario, Canada.HistoryOriginsThe land that the Robert Moses Niagara Power Plant occupies has a long history of use. In 1805, Augustus and Peter Porter of Buffalo, New York, purchased the American Falls from New York in a public auction, and later acquired the rights to the eastern rapids above the falls as well, but died before they could bring their vision of a canal and power plant to reality. Several other companies later attempted similar projects without success.

This was such a cool place. As an adult, I loved the abundance of information and the creative way it is presented throughout the building. My kids loved the hands on activities and really learned quite a bit about electricity especially through the 4D simulator. We would definitely come back, and recommend to anyone looking for something to do with the kids. The only reason this is a four and not a five star review is several kiosks throughout were not working, but touch screens can be finicky and they may have been the last time someone checked them out.
I went in Sept of 2018. It was free and it took like 2 hours to go through. Very kid friendly. Great information and interactive things. Would definitely go again especially since I now have a toddler.
We were drawn here today by the “Touch A Truck” event they were hosting and were pleasantly pleased to see all the upgrades to the facilities. They now have a planetarium exhibit and an educational “ride” to entertain visitors. The only improvement I would recommend is to not let the vending machines in the eating area all go broke at the same time.
Another great destination to add to your Niagara Falls list of places to visit and it's FREE!! Lots of great exhibits for a hands on educational experience. Tons of history and information about how the falls and water flowing through this area generates power for the US and Canada. Definitely part of the experience!
My family and I went there today for the first time. We all had a good time and was free for all of us. It wasn't really crowded and there was plenty of thing's for the kids and the wife and I to do. The kids had a blast. We will definitely be back when we come back to Niagara Falls.
Well, did we get hit with an absolutely awesome surprise! This was not all that we were expecting, we were expecting boring. We got electrified! Lol. It was a lot of fun. Adults liked it as much as the kids did. Plenty of activities to do along with a fantastic view for picture taking. Don't underestimate this Powerful experience!
Enjoyed this place a lot. There is a lot of hands on exhibits that teach about water, electricity. Definitely a fun time and will return when we are in the area. It's about a 15 min drive from Niagara Falls. Make sure you do the movie. That is a lot of fun! The view is amazing too!
I am glad I found this place. It was so interesting to see everything. It was free but I would have been happy to pay for the experience. The view is simply amazing.
Okay, one of the best places to bring kids for educational purposes. Also has a cool simulator and cool games. My favorite part is the outside part on the balcony.
We found this place in a trifold of free things to do it was awesome! Definitely a great place for kids! We got hooked up with Bob and he was great! He even recommended a lunch spot! You have to do the ride and you have to touch the ball! Wish I had more time to spend there so plan for a few hrs!
