On June 24, 2017, The 11th annual Rockstock and Barrels Surf/Skate/Music Festival will take place in Rockaway Beach at 90th Street.
The Rockstock and Barrels festival was founded by Jimmy Dowd of St James Clothing, Walker Hornung of Invisible Sun Booking Agency and Into the Whip Records and Steve Stathis of Boarders Surf Shop. After lobbying with the NYC Parks department for a local skate park, and designated surf beach in 2003, the only thing left to do was bring the music and the people down to Rockaway Beach to celebrate. So in 2006 the first Rockstock was created. Since then The Rockstock has had seven very successful years. With local and worldwide bands, art, clothing and food vendors and thousands of people this event rocks every year! There is a SURF contest sponsored by the Atlantic Surf Federation, SKATE contest in the newly community built skate park and of course amazing MUSIC from morning until sunset. After the event the celebration continues with an after party at a soon to be announced location with all contest results, raffles and a video premier.
