I was referred to Dr Black through my primary physician. I have had extensive headaches history for years. He ordered MRI which did not help in diagnosing what might be triggering the headaches, then he suggested that I should see a physical therapist all of this did not work for me. After that he seems to have lost interest in trying to help me manage my headaches, I was miserable it affected my life in all aspects. He did not even try to prescribe any migraine medication. One time I went to his office and I just broke down , he did not seem to care he handed me a tissue and walked out. After that visit he sent me a letter in the mail that he will stop seeing me with a bill of $70 . In the the latter he referred to me as a refugee which isn’t a bad thing But I not a refugee he just assumed I was one since I am from african descent. I know everyone are different and probably will have a different experience with this Doctor but be aware he lacks compassion. Less attentive and I would not recommend. On a positive note I got a a different neurologist who did all she could to make sure that she got to the bottom of my problem. I started with vitamins, migraine meds and I am more happier now. I wish I got this kind of help before I met Dr. Black.
I went to Dr. Black because I have had several severe symptoms and went through almost a year of tests with no answers. The first time I saw Dr. Black, my husband and myself were there. The moment he found out that the man next to me was my husband, the only thing he cared about was me getting an aids test. My husband and I have been together for 16 years tomorrow. He said that all of his symptoms are due to him drinking caffeine, and not sleeping well, and its all in my head. He wanted me to see a psychiatrist. He thinks it is all in my head. I have been having severe seizures as one of my symptoms, and actually was able to record one particular bad one so that he could see what I was going through. He says that I am just falling and forgetting. He says that a video of it will not give him a diagnosis. Well no, it won't but it will be more knowledge that you can gather to figure out what is wrong with me. The man does not listen at all. I refuse to go to this Dr. again. I am appalled that he even was able to earn the title. If you want a Dr. that listens to you, and takes your information about your own health and symptoms into account, then do NOT go to this Dr. If there was a way I could give him zero stars, I would!
I have seen Dr. Black for a few years for treatment for a stroke at 39 years old and lifelong headaches. I had seen other neurologists who were not helpful and never explained things clearly. Dr. Black is a little shy, which could come across as cold, but I found him to be helpful, friendly and far more knowledgeable than any other neurologist I've seen. He took the time to read my inch thick file and then talked to me about my symptoms. I've referred friends and family to him and hes taken excellent care of them as well. He helped me reduce the headaches down to once every few months rather than one every few days. My jaw dropped when I read the reviews saying he and his office are not helpful. I have only experienced professional friendly staff every time I've been in contact with them. I moved out of state and when I come back to visit family in the area I still see Dr. Black. Last time was in August and I paid out of pocket because my insurance doesn't cover out of state coverage. I think he is that good that I pay to see him when I could see another doctor with my insurance and pay a $10 copay.
I went to see Dr. Black a few weeks ago for a few problems I am having. He has a calm demeanor which I believe a few reviewers perceived as distant or uninterested, which he is not. He is soft spoken, but extremely knowledgeable. He addressed my many concerns and went out of his way to order test results from my regular doctor and went over those results with me- which my regular doctor had not done. He listened to my concerns and spent time to hear me, which I find lacking in other doctors. He suggested some vitamin supplements for me to take to help with some of my issues, and I feel better in the last month than I have felt in several years. I appreciate when doctors try to deal with the real cause of health issues and address the basic problems and not just give out medication to cover up the symptoms. I will take medication when needed, but I want to actually try and solve health problems before turning to medication. That seems logical to me, and I believe that's what Dr. Black did for me. I give him a high recommendation!
Dr. Black is kind, helpful, and knowledgeable. The people who have written bad reviews about him just want him to fix all their problems and get everything right. Neurological issues are really hard to fix and diagnose. He also suggested physical therapy to me because my MRI showed very little damage compared to other people with MS, and wanted to rule out headaches. I think that's great! I would much rather be told I have headaches that can be cured with PT than a neurological disease. After my spinal tap, confirming the MS diagnosis, he has been great to work with and answer my questions and concerns.
I have had a horrible experience with Dr. Black. I first go in compliant of headaches and migraines for the last 4-5 years. I go in and he tells me i have tension headaches. Even though i have talked to another doctor and i was diagnosis with IIH. Then he goes on ignoring the IIH and starts prescribing medication after medications. Gives me 6 different medications and I'm in my 20's. ARE YOU SERIOUS??? I'm not going to take all of those medications. Also tells me that i cant take anything with caffeine in it. Isn't caffeine supposed to help with headaches and migraines? Then he wants me the see this "special physical therapist". I have already seen a physical therapy for over a year now that has been treating my headaches. He still wants me to see the "special physical therapist." Wasn't listening to me at all. Then he goes on wanting to do a spinal tap. So i go in for the spinal tap, I receive a bill from them. I have been trying to get a hold of them and the billing department for 2 weeks now to try and pay the freaking bill. No one wants to answer the phone they are always having a higher then normal phone call volume. I leave messages and no one wants to call me back. I just trying to pay this bill and have it out of the way. Its a joke to try and get a hold of someone. All i know is dont go see this doctor. It was a waste of my time and money. Find someone else!!!!
*Misdiagnosis *Pushed Barbiturates *Told me I needed to see a psychiatrist *Prescribed me an antidepressant *Is against functional medicine and supplements I was admitted through the ER and unfortunately Dr Black was my treating physician. He diagnosed me with a blood clot, after leaving the hospital my symptoms became worse. After several follow-up visits he recommended I see a psychiatrist, he wanted to prescribe me a antidepressant and Xanax. He wrote in my discharge papers that I refuse to take his prescribed medicine but “ she will take a handful of supplements that she has no idea there side effects.” Because of this kind of mentality our country has become addicted to barbiturates. He would rather write a prescription instead of taking the time to listen, believe and use the knowledge he has been given to treat his patients. After months of being on warfarin and not feeling any better I decided to get a second opinion. I finally received an answer from the Mayo Clinic, it was never a blood clot But a CSF leak. My diagnosis Was difficult, the fact that Dr Black wouldn’t listen or run more tests is disappointing. His arrogance gets the best of him. You have to do your own due diligence, get second opinions! Don’t put up with doctors that have this kind of mentality!
Although Dr Black is shy and I feel like he does listen, he often brushes off concerns and doesn’t diagnose or fix them. However, the staff is AWFUL! The front desk receptionist is SO rude! The assistants don’t bother to call back. I’m on a medication that requires pre-authorization most of the time. It’s like pulling teeth to get anyone to do the referral or call you back. When I complained to the front desk receptionist about the lack of follow-up, she immediately went defensive and was SO rude to me. I’ve complained to him about his staff, and he makes excuses for them. As a patient with MS, I feel neglected by this doctor and his staff. Such a bad place to go to. I will for sure be seeking another option, since this office is uncaring and rude.
Horrible neurologist had symptoms he did not care to listen too. His statement was go see physical therapist and quit drinking caffeine for all my numbness. He caused me a lot of pain by stating I could return to work 30 min after a spinal tap and 3,100 later because of his ignorance I had to pay to have a spinal patch. And finding a good neurologist was the result of life or death. I had to have heart surgery and if not have been detected would have had heart failure. All because he is ignorant I am so greatful I got a second opinion not to mention his miss diagnosis he isn't willing to write off a 300 bill I feel is not owed due to his lack of health provision. He cost me much more money than deserved several thousands and a lot of pain. Would never recommend him and plan to tell every person to run if they hear his name
I rarely leave reviews, especially negative because things happen, but when it involves your health and well being, I feel like my experience can help someone else, that would be worth it. I was preliminary diagnosed with MS in 2014 in California, but then moved to UT soon after. I was referred to Dr Black and they asked me to get them all my medical records which I had hard copies of. I sent them to them via mail and then received a call saying they didnt gt them but to show up early to my appointment and bring a copy with me. I did, and handed them to the receptionist while checking in. She sat them down next to her in plain sight. I waited nearly an hour to be taken into a room. As I walked from the waiting area to the rooms my file was still sitting where the receptionist had sat it. 10 minutes later Dr Black came into the room. Looking at the paperwork I had brought 100's of pages and said "you dont have MS, you just have Headaches" and left the room. He has no regard for anyone or their health. I wouldn't recommend him to my worst enemy.
