Mr D. is awesome and all the teachers are approachable and want the best for your kids. It's a very communal environment with great diversity. The parents are all wonderful and not at all pretentious. There's room for improvement, just like at any school, but on a shoestring budget, no school does better.
I attended this school over 40 years ago and enjoyed every minute. I enjoyed the atmosphere the most. The teachers were great. I had good friends, and the bus ride to get here was an escape and adventure all in one. Great memories.
This is my last year as a parent here and I am sad! I have been a parent at RPEMS for 13 years and the school just gets better and better. Love Mr. D. And all the wonderful ladies in the main office. Teaching is great and PTA is the best PTA in the known universe.
In the mid 1940's my brother and I went to this school as we lived on W 41st Street. I had my first taste of sucking the juice from a lemon through a candy stick at the Spring outdoor fair. My brother made a recording with others at Christmas time, singing "We Three Kings..." I was pleasantly surprised to see the photo as it remains today.
I'm going to be very honest because an education for your child is important. I currently attend Green Street Academy which I love; I learn a lot of new things due to not getting the proper education at Roland. I attended Roland for about four years 3rd-6th. I made lots of friends at Roland and thought that everything was gonna go great! I started my 3rd grade year here and I later found out that my MATH teacher wanted to put me back in 2nd grade because of my READING. I had to take 2nd grade reading classes witch messed up my whole year. Fourth grade came and my english teacher Ms. Bock was racist and she didn't pay any type of attention to her African American students unless they're grades were A+'s and she made racial comments towards my mother and we complained and nothing was done. As far as I know Ms. Bock remains a teacher. Around about my 5th grade year, my history teacher Ms. Hoffman was super disrespectful towards me, which confused me as to why, I was a good student and never really got in much trouble. She would pinpoint me as the "problem child" because I'm a very opinionated young African American lady and I'm being raised well. Now, I had already had met the middle school principal Mr. Croson, he didn't like me at all and I'm gonna be honest i believe it was because I'm black. If i had a problem and tried to go to him about it or wanted to start a club or wanted to help make the school better, he would ignore me, throw me out of his office, or give me the runaround. Now Roland isn't completely a bad school academics wise its great, but staff wise not at all. If you're African American you get treated a certain way, the only person you can really depend on at Roland is the principal Mr. D'mabrosio and Ms. Bookman the 7th grade councillor. I feel If you're child is African American and you wanna send them to Roland be alert because there are teachers that wanna help every child and there are teachers that just wanna see the American American child fail. Please make sure your child gets a good education going into Roland because most of those teachers don't believe in American American children succeeding.
My step daughter was harrased and bully and they didn't do nothing at the end she did something wrong and they didn't care about her .they let these kids get away with it .alongs as they protect there school some kids get over look it's truly .What she did was wrong but them not helping her was more wrong.smh
I go to Roland Park now and I just became a seventh grader. Last year some of the teachers were really strict but in the end they're really nice!
Roland park is the best school ever I have so many great friends and the teachers are super nice also we do the best week long trips it's a great experience
Tupac Shakur went to school here for two years. He began in mid-November 1984 when he was 13 years old. He had just moved to Baltimore from New York with his mother and sister.
My children go to this school and have great effort. I will miss Mr.D though
