Romeo High School is located in northern Macomb County, Michigan approximately 30 miles north of the city of Detroit. It is a part of Romeo Community Schools.Romeo provides a comprehensive 9-12 academic curriculum for students, including College Prep, Independent Study, Vocational, Technical, and Mentor programs. Advanced Placement Courses are offered in English Language, Literature, Calculus, German, Spanish, U.S. History, Music, Studio Art, Computer Science, Statistics and others. Numerous athletic, social, and service opportunities are available for students. Most famously, Romeo is known for being the High School that Grammy nominated recording artist Robert Ritchie, aka Kid Rock attended.HistoryBuildings and locationsRomeo AcademyIn 1833, Romeo Academy was formed, providing education beyond the primary years from the North Primary School. The Romeo Academy was located inside the Romeo Congregational Church. The Academy was modeled after the successful academies of the East Coast to provide higher education for the local families.Dickinson InstituteIn 1854, the Dickinson Institute was formed to replace the Romeo Academy, acting as a high school. The Dickinson Institute provided education until 1867, when Bruce School District and the Washington School District formed a union school district. The Dickinson Institute was then used as the high school for the new Union School District until 1885 when a new school was built. Romeo High School was dedicated on September 4, 1885 and provided free education for grades seven through twelve. Students from outside the school district were required to pay tuition if they wished to attend. In 1927 the school had a large wing added onto the building. By 1955 it was decided to construct a new high school, in 1957 Romeo High School then moved to its current location on 32 Mile Road. The old high school was then transformed into Romeo Junior High School later to become Romeo Middle School.
