My elderly mother was a recent patient. We were very disappointed with the care in rehab unit. PT and OT were very helpful. But basic care? My mother is blind and hard of hearing. Meals were left on her table. Minimal assistance with her meals. Nursing ignoring her call bell on multiple occasions. No hourly rounding by nursing staff. The managers need to implement this practice ASAP.
I couldn't be more disappointed. I told the receptionist that I am horrible with blood draws. "Ohh don't worry she's the best." So when I get to the lab tech I say the same thing. I say that I always pass out and need to lay down. She says, "Oh don't worry I'm great at this." Well you can guess what happened. I nearly passed out, she was completely shocked and unprepared to help. She made a desperate and unclear call to the ER where they kept trying to clarify with her and she was not helpful. So then I ended up in the ER with a $2,500 bill. This is a major expense I hadn't planned for that was completely avoidable. If the staff made any effort to listen and work with me, this would not have happened. Yes I understand most people don't have these issues, however I could not have been more clear throughout the process and I could not have been ignored anymore. Why was there no option to lay down? Why no ice packs? The bill impacts my life greatly.
I spent the nights of 10/4/23 and 10/5/23 on the 6th floor of this facility and have a few things to say. First of all, my night nurse Akilah was AMAZING! She obviously cared about me, and was attentive and efficient as her other duties allowed. I genuinely liked her as a person, and am glad she was assigned to me. Second, a shout-out to Halley who treated my incredibly fragile skin with care, creativity, and compassion nice hair too!. I was impressed by how the staff members helped each other out in a proactive manner. They truly operated as a team. A few not-so-good things. The beds are horribly uncomfortable. As soon as I checked out, my back went out and I was unable to walk without pain for several days. The "hot food" arrived cold, but a friendly tech offered to heat it up for me - which really helped. It's also almost impossible to sleep with the frequent announcements, vitals checks, etc. Here's a direct quote from one of the staff: "If you are sleeping in our hospital, we're not doing our job". LOL. I did manage three hours of sleep one night with cooperation and consideration from the night staff.
My family and I were recently in Charleston for vacation. 10 minutes into our vacation our mom fell and broke her kneecap. We ended up at Roper Hospital and we are so thankful we did. All of the staff, nurses, doctors were phenomenal! They made an unpleasant experience a better one with their sweet disposition and caring attitude. They checked on our mother often, took care of us while we were visiting and made sure we had everything we needed. I can’t say enough good things.
Avoid this hospital. Went for a CT scan on 4/18/23 and paid my portion of $1200 that I was told I owed after insurance. Insurance actually paid more on my behalf than Roper led me to believe. I have been on the phone and live chatting with them since May to receive a $200 refund. I was told it was refunded back to original payment. It wasn’t. Then I was told they sent a check in May. Never received. Called billing department in July and was told the check would be resent. Never received. Today I am told that they have to review my account and resend check. Do not pay this hospital until you receive explanation of benefits from your insurance.
Back in 2019 I had triple bypass at this hospital. I spent a week in recovery. The doctors were awesome. The nurses were fantastic and the food surprisingly was great. The only downside is the beds were horribly uncomfortable. I spent my entire week sleeping in a chair because the beds felt so horrible. But everything else was top notch and superb.
I’d like to start this review off by saying this is in no way a reflection of the medical staff. This is entirely about the security guard we had the displeasure of dealing with tonight in the Emergency Room. Myself, fiancé, and brother headed into the Emergency room after being told my grandpa was admitted due to a stroke he may not make the night. With that being said, my dad his son was already in the back of the ER with my grandpa. We were told by security/ the front desk clerk to wait in the waiting area due to the nurse saying there could only be 2 visitors back there currently. We were totally fine with this and began waiting. My dad then emerged from the back of the ER and told us that the nurse said we could go back and wait in the family waiting area. This is when security guard, Anthony Fraiser, aggressively stood up from his seat and ran over to the double doors to block them and told us all to get back, which we did. My grieving dad then said calmly and nicely “the nurse mentioned it was okay if they come back now.” To which Anthony responded by getting in his face and yelling YOU ARE NOT IN CHARGE OF THIS HOSPITAL GET BACK. Keep in mind none of us were being aggressive or pushing our way to the back. We would have been totally fine with sitting back down and waiting. This is when my brother and I took out our phones and started recording him and told him that our dads dad was currently dying and to not speak to him like that. Anthony responded by keeping his voiced raised and yelling at the other guard to call the police on us even though none of us were being aggressive in any way. The nurses then came out and said it was a misunderstanding and that we could come to the back. Misunderstanding or not, the way that Anthony spoke to a grieving family is more than unacceptable and he should not be in this kind of setting if he doesn’t know how to talk to people. His lack of compassion is absolutely disgusting and this could have been handled in a much better way by simply telling us that there was a mix up and to just hold on a moment while they get it sorted. Customer service can make or break an experience. And when I should be grieving my grand father I’m writing this review because of how badly we were treated by this sorry excuse of a security guard. I will also be taking this complaint further than this review. I hate to give a low review because I truly have no complaints about the medical staff. They were all super kind and very compassionate and I felt like my grandfather was in good hands. However, Anthony made what was already a difficult situation so much worse and unfortunately it could have been prevented had a compassionate security guard been sitting there tonight ** I’m editing to add that before this even happened, Anthony huffed and rolled his eyes at my brother when we first walked in and he asked what room we were meant to be going to and my brother responded with “I’m not sure.” I’m sorry my brother couldn’t remember a bed number when his grandfather was dying. Another example of gross behavior from this guard
Where do I start? The physical therapy department is slack; they are too scared of the patient sustaining a minor injury, causing them to have to fill out paperwork, instead of actually pushing you to your limits so that you heal to your potential. Also, I am questionable about their understanding of the types of injuries they see most. The best help I got in my many visits there was with a guy right out of school with zero practical experience. He was the only one to actually go out of his way to get me the things I needed and to push me. The doctor in charge of the physical therapy and the spinal cord clinic, Dr. Powell, is either too jaded and past his prime or downright malicious. I overheard him gossiping about me to one of the other PT's. It is my personal belief that he disregards the Hippocratic oath in order to impede your recovery if he does not like you or if he does not approve of the circumstances of how you got injured. I received a mobility device that was far too large for me and exacerbated my symptoms. After fighting for my own health with their equipment provider, I ended up going through a different company than the one they work with directly for a replacement. This new piece of equipment was several inches smaller in dimensions across the board and it just demonstrates their malicious attempts to sabotage my recovery by selling me the old oversized piece in the first place. Either that or their downright incompetence and ignorance. I would sue if I knew I could win but there is little hard evidence but I am talking to a lawyer regardless. They know they are the only place that 'specializes' in these kinds of injuries so you have no other options than to take what they put out. It is some type of power complex that makes them feel important. If you end up having to go through here, stay on your toes, so to speak, and do not be afraid to advocate for your own health if you feel like things are not as they should be.
Truly Disgusted! My mother and I'm sure this happened to other people's mother's, was admitted into this hospital. She's has some medical challenges. These people provided medical care, but they did NOTHING to clean her. We went to clean my mom, and found poop in her butt crack, around and in her vaginal area OMG. God Forbid we didn't check, she would've laid there with that junk around her privates, and the infection that she would've been subjected to, could kill a woman that's her age. Whomever that's responsible for this, is doing it to someone else's mom, and that's not right. They would not want that for their mother. These people should be fired, and if my mom caught an infection at anytime, I Would Sue The Hospital, I'd find the staff members and make sure they're fired, and contact whomever and whatever organization I need to, to make sure punishment is swift and severe for the hospital and ANYONE who was responsible for this. These are human beings in your care, NOT INANIMATE OBJECTS.... PEOPLE. They're Not Animals, even though these days people treat dogs better than humans. That's Sickening. People's Loved Ones are in these hospitals. Plus, in a world of Social Media, things go public and viral quickly. I am persistent, and if you're doing this to people's family, I suggest they use any legal means, to bring light to EVERY ATROCIOUSITY that this hospital is responsible for. Bad Press is not something any company wants. There's a reason this place has the stars they have. I'm Truly Disappointed! Oh, and don't reach out to me with some lame excuse, telling me you're sorry that I didn't receive the "top notch" care that Roper blah blah blah, then give me a dumb number to call. However, if you do do that, it just tells me, other families and the rest of your patients, that you DO NOT read these reviews. So basically YOU DON'T CARE!
I am sitting in my hospital bed at parent, where.I have ignored or lied to concerning my pain medication. I have a very bad case of Pneumonia in my right lung: a very painful experiences. My first night here, it took 5 family member over 7 hours to get me pain medication for that night. They blatantly lied to ur face, while you’ll screaming in agony. If I wasn’t in this bed, I wouldn’t believe the things that I have witnessed these last past 3 days. I feel like an victim, instead of a patient.
