I live roughly 1.5 miles away and today at 12:10 AM the train sounded a horn that lasted about one minute. I can't sleep because of all of the clamor emanating from this station. It's awful. Trains should not operate this way in the dead of night.
Train station. Pacific Street Cafe within walking distance. Great food. Watch out for potentially Aggressive homeless people. Frequent train traffic. Good place to watch trains. Many security cameras. Also roving security presence. Plenty of parking also with security surveillance.
Convenient station for Amtrak California Zephyr and Capitol Corridor lines. No open bathrooms so be sure to use the “track my train” Amtrak site to see how late your train is. Otherwise you could be holding it for a while!
This is an interesting spot to train watch. At this end of the yard, you can see the locomotives queued for maintenance, and this is where the Zephyr and Capitol Corridor stop. But, the snow removal equipment is very interesting. Flangers and rotary snow plows with supporting motive power are stored near here. Looking at them, you imagine them working in blizzards in the mountains and the epic fight to keep the trains moving. I'm going to go home and sit by my fire....
Amtrak usually runs late and Roseville station has no available bathrooms and no long-term parking. I wish the train service was more reliable as riding the train is always fun with lots of leg room in front of seats and lots of storage places for bags. I think they did away with full dining but still have snack bar. A few years ago, we took the train from Roseville to Denver and back. Really enjoyable ride but taxi driver when we came back from Roseville station was crazy!
No bathroom, outdated schedules, no useful information from signs and amtrak doesn't know where the zephyr trains they operate even are. Good thing I gave them my phone number so they could sell it and not send me updates. Will I make my connection? I doubt it as I'm already 30 minutes late.
Kicked us off the train in Elko, NV on a trip from Sacramento, CA to Grand Junction, CO claiming that my wife's service dog had an accident on the train. Their "evidence" was a piece of paper claiming to cover the "Accident." I would normally have no problem with this, except that our dog was with us the entire time, had no such accident, and has never had any issues with going to the bathroom up to this point, Thank you Amtrak for making my wife cry...
I've been riding the train from Roseville to Davis for about two months now. Today was the last straw. More often than not we end up running a half hour late from Davis to Roseville. One day it was HOURS we sat waiting because a car was on the tracks. Today as we left the Davis station we had to stop because the breaks needed a repair. Half hour later we finally leave. Next we stop outside of Sacramento because what ever it was that they fixed is now beyond broken. I am just getting home an hour and a half late. It's running late more often than not.
So damn loud. At literally any hour. Doesnt matter if its 3am, they're not afraid to blast their horns over and over and over and over. Always wakes up my kids. Wish they would follow some sort of rules because it's getting out of hand.
Not as crowded as Sacramento but the town is a perfect size to get around from end to end
