Rowheels solve a key human factors problem. By pulling the handrim instead of pushing, Rowheels patent pending design propels a wheelchair user forward with less effort and reduced strain on the shoulders, joints and muscles.
Rowheels’ patented design includes a gear ratio that decreases cadence while increasing acceleration and speed. In addition, a specific need and common problem for wheelchair users is the ability to “hold a hill” and prevent rollback. Rowheels incorporates a hill assist feature that prevents rollback of the wheelchair as the user goes from one pulling stroke to the next. Rowheels is entirely mechanical and overcomes the quality, weight and reliability issues encountered with other mobility methods, while also offering greater physical health benefits for the user. Rowheels are lightweight and use a quick release mechanism, making them easy to remove and stow one handed during unassisted car transfers. The estimated final production weight will be less than 6 lbs per wheel, more than 30% lighter than the nearest competitive product and approximately the weight of a conventional rimmed wheel. Rowheels can be retrofitted to most manual wheelchairs and will be sold as an upgrade component to existing wheelchairs and as the standard wheel specification for new wheelchairs.
To create a paradigm shift in manual wheelchair propulsion by providing a product that is more functional, more efficient, and faster than other wheel product currently available.
