This was an absolutely amazing experience! we took the holiday express train on new years Eve day at 12:30pm and it ended up being sunny and 60 degrees, which was perfect for the open air car! No matter what spot you get on the train, anyone can access the open air car. The train was not going that fast either, so it wasn’t too windy to be out in the open air car while it’s moving. The views are incredible and the train cars are very well kept and clean! We took the holiday train, which was decked out in holiday decor, played holiday music, and even had a festive menu. The food was great, and the service was also great. The servers also were giving historic snippets along the train ride in between serving. They were also very punctual with taking off at 12:30, and pulling back in exactly at 2:30. It’s an ‘out and back’ route, and NOT a loop. The train also stops underneath the big bridge on the way back so people can get pictures in the open air car. Overall a super great experience and we will definitely be back!
This was our first time riding this train and it was so cool! I recommend buying the more expensive tickets for the Vista Dome because you get to sit in a really cool rail car with huge windows and you can wander back to the bar and open air rail car too! I'd also recommend getting tickets for the early departure because the weather is better and it's not as busy. The train will go right under the Royal Gorge Bridge too which was so cool! The service we got was amazing, the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable and made our experience that much better! Definitely ride this train if you want a different experience and view from the canyon bottom to the top!
Had a blast on the train! We did the 6:30p ride and it was really cool. My 11 yr old was enthralled by the gorge. Did one of the open air cars for 1/2 the ride and the Vista Dome for the other half. Food was excellent and out server Anna Marie was awesome. Rest of staff we encountered was very nice and you can tell they have fun working. Will definitely be back with visiting family, etc.
SO COOL! This train ride was absolutely awesome! From the breath taking views to the very friendly staff. My husband and I enjoyed a really yummy lunch, and some drinks while able to go outside on the open air cart super cool! Every single staff member from start to finish were super nice and happy to help and answer questions. The older gentleman on the open air cart and Breezy were great! 10/10
Only set on left hand side of train, seating is assigned when purchasing tickets . I would think the train would turn around for return trip, but it is put in Reverse. So if you're setting on right hand side you are only seeing half the scenery. Right hand side of train does not have water and you see a lot of electrical power post. If you book the Vista dome, Which is higher price, the glass Dome does not extend high enough on the roof to get a good view of the top of Gorge. Food and service are acceptable. Bathroom on train and in train depot large waiting line. They have a map of the Gorge with numbers but it does not relate to where you are in Canyon. The best views are from outdoor train car with no seating. No audio is available to tell you about the gorge as you travel. I was not impressed with train & ride. I assume if you never been on a train before this would be a new adventure. Enjoy!
Surprisingly great experience! Well organized and fun trip into the gorge! Did the Vista Dome car with the prepaid lunch...surprise...the food and service were great! Views from the dome car is fantastic and easy access to outdoor open air car is nice in good weather. We enjoyed this excursion and would do it again!
The experience was wonderful. I definitely recommend spending a little more and getting breakfast in the Sunshine Falls cabin. Cathie and Brenda were great and so knowledgeable. It was like getting a once in a lifetime experience with an added tour. We had an unforgettable time! Thank you!
This was an incredible experience even sitting in coach. We went on the 9:15am ride and it was nice and cook out. I recommend that you get out to the outdoor cab on the way out as the sun is to your back. On the way back the sun is in your eyes and more people tend to go out then. Overall it's worth the trip and would probably be fun for the themed trips as well.
I highly suggest checking this out. I wouldn't bother paying for the most expensive seats because in good weather, your best view is in the open outside standing car where a worker talks about the history of the railroad. You will want to grab your drinks quick and head straight outside for a great spot to see the amazing view. I would take anyone back to do it. Such a great time.
This is the most beautiful, calming, and easy way to explore the mountains. I highly recommend buying cheap seats on the train because you'll be standing outside the whole time. And it is seriously breathtaking. The view and the sounds of the river and wind. Really you have to try this! The serving staff was also so friendly and kind, and really lovely to chat with. Everyone was really helpful and had tons of tib bits of information! The train itself was super clean and not too cramped. The bathrooms were very clean as well. I would've loved to try the food, but the kitchens looked amazing and all the food passing by smelled delicious.
