RSU#24 Adult Education serves the Maine communities of Eastbrook, Franklin, Gouldsboro, Mariaville, Sorrento, Steuben, Sullivan, Waltham, and Winter Harbor.
We offer a broad range of quality, affordable, accessible, confidential educational opportunities.
Our main office is located at the Sullivan Town Hall building. Our offerings are available in many communities and located at schools, municipal and community buildings.
We offer the following programs:
BUILDING THE BASICS-brush up on your math, reading and writing skills: Overcome math anxiety. Tackle the challenge of sounding out difficult words or remembering what you read. Expand your vocabulary, improve your punctuation. Express yourself with confidence.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING Learn English with us. You may know only a few words or want to increase your fluency. We would love to work with you.
FAMILY LITERACY If you would like to support your children's learning and education while continuing yours at the same time we can work with you to design a family learning plan to reach your goals for your children as well as your own.
COMPUTER LITERACY
HIGH SCHOOL COMPLETION This year alone 59 adults in our communities successfully achieved a high school credential. We have two options for you to choose--
High School Diploma-- You literally take up where you left off in school, earning credits toward an RSU#24 Adult High School Diploma. You are required to have 20 credits--14 core academic credits and 6 electives. Work experience, project based learning and volunteer work are all considered for credit completion. Most people are a lot closer than they think. Currently courses are offering Tuesday in Ellsworth and Thursday in Sullivan. You can earn as many as 8 credits in a semester!
General Educational Development (GED) Diploma- This is a test of your knowledge and skills to graduate from high school. There are five parts to the test (Writing, Reading, Social Studies, Science, Math) Start with the Orientation to see what you need to do prepare. We will help you design a personal learning plan to study only what you need to study to pass the test.
College Transitions
College Preparation If you need to brush up on skills and knowledge or take pre-requisites for college programs we offer study labs, courses and workshops for you.
Educational & Career Advising-We have qualified educational and career advisors to offer free individual and group sessions to assist you in determining your goals for a bright future.
University of Maine Distance Education (ITV & on-line) Thanks to a collaboration with the University of Maine system and the support and presence of the Hancock County Higher Education Center you can pursue college nearby or in your own home.
