Ive been taking my dogs, children, and now grand children, to Russell Woods for 22 years. Its beautiful and well maintained with lots of trails to hike and the river to play in. The learning center is always fun for the kids too. Unfortunately camping isn't allowed there anymore but its still a great place to spend a few hours. Its close to home, but you can still feel like you're lost in nature!
A gorgeous place to go for a walk or bike ride. There are multiple trails and lots to explore!
We love coming to Russel Woods. It's a nice midwest natural area perfect for a day of hiking or sledding. The sledding hill here is perfect for little ones, well laid out and not too crazy.Visited onPublic holidayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree
Our family loves going to Russell's Woods any time of year. It's a beautiful place to hike in both spring and fall. Summer is nice too, as long as you're prepared to combat against the mosquitoes. In the winter they have the all famous sledding hill that usually has a huge bonfire at the top going warm all day long. Up until a few years ago the public could camp over night for a very reasonable price of $3 per night. Unfortunately due to people leaving messes they had to pull the plug on that and left it only for scouts and larger groups of that nature. However, we were there yesterday and saw some new signage and it looks like we might be able to contact them and hopefully be able to camp there once again. Don't quote me on that though, we have to call and ask first, but it almost looked as though that might now be an option.
Gorgeous I love the little touches they've added over the years! Playground: Cute kids area Restrooms: Outhouses in multiple areas Dog-friendliness: Completely Dog friendly Picnic area: LOADS
A hidden forest and scenic river in the middle of the prairie with a bridge overlooking the water where you can watch and wave as the kayakers or canoe-ers float by. And, in the winter during/after snowfall, one can take advantage of the sledding hill--quite popular with the locals. Someone maintains a bonfire there during the sledding season often, it seems. There is a lodge for rental, and of course hiking trails around the area. Overall, it's a refreshing area to take a brake from life in DeKalb county. Parking may be limited.
Not much for adventuring around. Bridge doesn't lead anywhere. Saw some deer up close though!
Nice little forest perserve to take the dog for a walk at.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo wait
3 1/2 stars would be more appropriate. It's a nice hill for sledding. Not too bad climbing up I wouldn't think. And there are a few benches. In the summer they mow and there are paths at the bottom and a gravel road for park service vehicles.
Absolutely beautiful! Took my kid and enjoyed a bit of a rugged hike winter and hopping over a few fallen trees but it was a nice adventure.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree
