Rustic Golf & Country Club
"Rustic Canyon is a tribute to the very roots of the game with a lay-of-the-land creation by Hanse Golf Design. Built without detailed blueprints or working drawings, Hanse Golf shaped the large contoured, free-form green complexes and sculpted the bunkers from the natural landscape preserving and incorporating into the design the native barrancas. The canyon hills are dotted with sagebrush, cactus, waves of brome and stipa grass highlighted by a few picturesque oaks.Rustic Canyon is an exercise in restraint with flat, wide-open fairways that fade into the native surroundings and bunkers edged with shaggy eyebrows of thick, drooping fescue. The ground game is critical as the greens play to a bump & run approach."

Three stars because the greens keepers have zero chill. For some reason the course isn't tended to from the 18th hole and downwards. The team of green keepers started maintenance at the first tee box with us, at 0620 and followed us for each and every hole. Good times.
Beautifully tucked in the canyon. Love all the California native plants surrounding the fairway and the tee boxes. The native environment this golf course is located in is rich with wildlife. As a plant person, I was probably doing more plant and wildlife watching then actually playing. Look forward to going back on playing this course again.
A pretty serene golf course with a super chill vibe and the ambience is always refreshing … great for both beginners and pros… it’s so much fun especially on weekdays
Another awesome experience! Great course, awesome set up. So much fun. Just had a few days of rain and you wouldn't have known. Excellent conditions. Staff along the way were awesome as well. Looking forward to my next round.
As everyone already knows, dollar for dollar it’s the best course in the US. Beautiful layout running up and down a canyon into the foothills of the Santa Susana mountains. Especially nice to play it in winter or early spring when the hills are green. Some fine holes, with one absolutely great forced carry, and the whole course lies gently on the land it occupies. Pace of play isn’t great… took us 4h50 on a Friday afternoon and the course obviously gets a lot of use. But the general upkeep is good, the pro shop is totally adequate and the Works hot dogs in the cafe are juicy and hot. And the course is just so pretty. Can’t wait to come back.
The course was absolutely beautiful and it was a nice atmosphere. Regardless, I had a bad experience the first time I went hit the driving range. I got a large basket of balls and ended up only hitting around 5 balls out of the 70 I had until I jammed my wrist and couldn't hit anymore. The staff didn't let me get any partial-refunds or discounts for this $15 bucket I bought so I ended up just tossing the remainder 95% of the balls onto the range. Staff was polite, but I hated my first and only time on this range because of this.
So much fun, great course for high and low handicappers. Wide open off the tee and the fun starts on the approach and around the greens. A true links style experience with lots of slopes and undulations. almost a 2 hr commute and it didn't disappoint. Rustic Canyon exceeded expectations and green fees are a super deal.
Rustic canyon deserves its top 100 ranking. A course as difficult as you want to make it. Play further back and try to land on the front couple yards of each green and you should be in good shape. Don’t be afraid to bail out and take a long iron off the tee, the course rewards smart strategic play.
I love the course / a great layout in great shape. But the speed of play is horrible - a 5 hour round is getting to be the norm and the folks in the pro shop will just say “yeah, busy day.”
The best deal west of the Mississippi possibly in the entire country $44 gets you a prime weekday morning tee time on this gem designed by Hanse / Shackelford. It may be very windy as it’s location in the canyon tends to amplify local weather conditions but even in hurricane force winds you can still tee it up a box or two and have fun. Remember every putt subtly breaks toward the gate you entered the course from.
