Colleges Against Cancer (CAC) is a nationwide collaboration of college students, faculty, and staff dedicated implementing American Cancer Society events.
The main goal of Colleges Against Cancer is to fight cancer by volunteering for and instating and supporting programs of the American Cancer Society.
It's a great way to have fun while making a difference in the lives of people facing cancer.
We want you to join our efforts in the fight against cancer at Rutgers!
Our main events:
1. Making Strides- Noncompetitive walks ranging in distance from 3 to 5 miles. The event unites people of all ages with a common goal to fight breast cancer and save lives. Chances are, you've been affected by breast cancer in some way, and Making Strides gives you the power to fight back and make a difference. Most Making Strides events have no registration fee and no fundraising minimum.
2. Great American Smokeout- an event that is nationally recognized as a platform to educate the public on the dangers associated with tobacco use and to encourage smokers to quit for a lifetime by starting with just one day.
3. "Kiss Away Cancer!"- The month of February offers the perfect opportunity to raise awareness about the various types of reproductive cancers that affect our college campuses. This event entails the selling of Hershey's kisses candy grams, writing Valentine's Day cards to cancer patients and passing out cancer prevention information.
4. Relay for Life- A life changing event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who battled cancer, remember those we lost, and fight back against cancer. At Relay, teams of people camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Because cancer never sleeps, Relays are overnight events up to 24 hours in length.
There will be several fundraisers, bake sales, promotional events for Relay for Life, and other fun events throughout the year.
