At Sacred Space Counseling Center, we use a variety of therapeutic modalities (i.e.: sand tray, art, play therapy, traditional therapy, etc.) to meet each client where they are developmentally and emotionally. In the first session, we collaborate with the individual/family to develop a treatment plan to address their individual/family needs.
We approach problems from a systemic lens knowing that the individual does not live in a vacuum. The individual's thoughts, feelings, and actions impact his/her family and the other family member's thoughts, feelings, and actions impact the individual.
We believe that healing is possible! Within a supportive environment designed to explore emotional patterns, an individual or family can identify those patterns that are working and those patterns that are not working. Once the patterns are identified, the individual or family can develop a plan for change!
We charge up to 125 per hour for counseling, and we are willing to figure out a rate that makes counseling feasible for our individual clients. We look forward to hearing from you regarding your individual and/or family needs.
Counselor Biographies...
Brandi M. Smith, LPCS -
Before becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor, Brandi spent 6 years as a Special Education Teacher working with individuals and families with seemingly insurmountable challenges. During this time, she learned that within the framework of a supportive relationship, her students and families were able to take risks and begin thinking outside of the box in order to address their day-to-day difficulties.
Brandi carries this ingenuity and creativity into the counseling room even today. She believes that her clients are resilient, and she has seen that change occurs within trusting relationships, as clients feel safe enough to take risks and explore new patterns of interactions. She believes that individuals and families can overcome seemingly insurmountable challenges both emotionally and within their relationships. Brandi approaches her work with individuals and families from a systemic perspective believing that the individual both influences and is being influenced by his/her family system.
Brandi has been a Licensed Professional Counselor since 2011 and a board approved Supervisor since 2013. In addition to her work at Sacred Space Counseling Center, Brandi partners with a local non-profit counseling agency to help train students that are pursuing a Master’s degree in Counseling. Brandi is currently completing her 2nd year within the Marriage and Family Therapy PhD program at Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth.
In her spare time, Brandi enjoys all things creative, spending time with her friends, watching Married at First Sight as well as other reality-based TV shows, and playing with her Yorkie named Gus.
Heather M. Cawthon, LPCS -
I received my Masters in Counseling from DBU in 2007. Shortly after that in 2008, I began working with a non-profit counseling center as a contract counselor. In 2009, I was promoted to Clinical Director of the same non-profit, a position that I maintained for 5 years. During that time, I became a board LPC Supervisor. I am currently in my 3rd year of the PhD program in Marriage and Family Therapy at Texas Wesleyan University. I am employed by Behavioral Health Connections as the Clinical Lead as well as by DBU as an Adjunct Professor within their Psychology Department. I was recently certified as a Restoration Therapist.
