We are very proud to be the country’s oldest Episcopal boarding school founded in 1842 by the leaders of the Oxford Movement, who were committed to the formation of character in community.
AMAZING vs. The Same Old Thing: Internationally recognized as one of the best small boarding schools in the country, Saint James boasts a challenging core curriculum, preparing our students for college success, not stress. Located just 70 miles drive from the cities of Washington, D.C., Baltimore, and three international airports, our 672-acre campus is a serene home for 215 students from 19 states and 8 countries. With all full-time faculty residing on campus, relationships are at the core of our community. Saint James is the oldest Episcopal boarding school founded on the Oxford Movement, with rich traditions dating back to 1842. Saint James is different than other small boarding schools in that we instill confidence, not arrogance, in our students. A large variety of interscholastic sports provides more athletic competition than most small schools. The Mission of Saint James School is to prepare young men and women for academic success in college, and to challenge and inspire them to be leaders for good in the world. We seek to do this within a small and familial residential community which values the moral and spiritual development of our students.
