A Long Standing Tradition: 17 Years of Salsa Dancing in Carbondale, IL
As Latin dancing sweeps over the nation and gains popularity, many people are taking to the dance floor to discover what this type of dance is all about. However, there has been a group who was a fan of Latin dancing before it was cool and this year marks their 17th year anniversary in Carbondale, IL. What started out as a small group of friends with a similar interest has now grown to a group with over 400 likes on Facebook and attendance nearing 100 guests. Salsa Dance Night, in its 17 years, has made a home in different parts of Carbondale such as Cafe Melange, Gaia House, Stix, Longbranch Cafe, or bringing the party to you by providing music, sound systems and dancers and even some venues that are now only long standing memories (Gatsby's Bar and Billiards and La Fogata Mexican Restaurant). During these transitions, dancers have come and gone and with each incoming generation, brought in their own personality to the Latin dancing community. However, ask anyone that has gone to Salsa Dance Night and they will tell you that the common denominator throughout the years has been one-a love for music and dancing.
With our motto, "Dance: free your mind and your feet will follow", the Salsa Dance Night ( Party Starters ) crew is currently celebrating their anniversary with dancing and best dressed competitions. No dancing experience nor partner is required and the regulars are happy to teach those that are eager to learn. The event is free every Friday night at Social House on Main St. Stop by this Friday to be a part of the celebration and enjoy a great Carbondale tradition 17 years strong.
