Samrath Indian cuisine is a very casual spot in Reseda of that serves mostly Indian food with some Chinese dishes thrown in to the mix. We had a family night there with my wife, myself and our 10-year-old son. The atmosphere of this place is a little off. It's super brightly lit and has all kinds of things including a large digital clock on the front window, which gives you the feeling that you might be entering the 7-Eleven of Indian restaurants. That would've been fine if the food was amazing and in the end it was just kind of OK. They do offer several vegan meat options with their Indian food which is always a treat for us vegetarians to be able to have a simulation of popular carnivore dishes, in addition to the usually pretty tasty vegetarian Indian dishes. We started with an order of veggie samosas. They were a little more spicy than I was used to, and they weren't so crispy on the outside. They were super hot which gave me the impression that they might've heated them up in a microwave. I had a veggie thali with two vegetable dishes, raita, and a salad. The raita of was not at all fresh tasting and weirdly sweet. I don't think I've ever had Indian yogurt served sweet. I can't say that I'm a fan. For my first vegetarian dish on the thali I got the saag paneer which is always my go to vegetarian dish at a new Indian place. They did a good job with this one. I also had the soy at lamb tikka masala. This had good flavor but the soy meet was definitely overcooked and tough. If you're familiar with cooking vegetarian, soy based meats, you know that they don't really need to be cooked that long. Our kid had an order of veggie dumplings from the Chinese menu. The flavor was good on the inside, but the dough they were wrapped in was sort of rubbery which prevented him from really enjoying them. The naan that we ordered also was a little under cooked. Sometimes I like bread a little doughy, but this just didn't seem right. Everything was served cafeteria style… That is in school lunch cafeteria style trays with different compartments, which if done purposely could have a certain kitschy appeal to it, but this just felt a little off. On the plus side there was authentic Indian music playing on the stereo which was the one saving grace of the atmosphere of the place. For dessert we had the Ras Malai dumplings with a mango flavor…served cold with a sort of ice cream like substance in it. Meh. And we also had the Gulab Jamun Those honey soaked Indian dough balls. Is it traditional Indian dessert which we typically love. In this case, it was more like they soaked some donut holes in a sweet sugar syrup and deep-fried them. The weren't particularly melt-in-your mouth good like we’ve experienced at other places The food here was OK, and it was nice that they had some vegetarian meat options, but with a plethora of really good Indian food all over the valley, deliverable to your house, and nicer dine-in atmospheres, I doubt we would to return to this place.
Food is tasty, staff is very nice and helpful, and the chef doubled as our server that night and was very very kind. A little something for everyone my husband got the Chinese food while we got the Indian food. Great lunch specials. So glad to finally see some Indian food in this type of quick and casual setting.
Food is delicious and flavors are spot on. I was hoping for more indo-chinese options on the menu for the lunch but the 3 was fine. The Mongolian fish was delicious. The serving format is a bit weird but otherwise good food. I'll order out next time. Their menu is varied and has the stuff I was looking for.
Good place to have food. Homely food, nice ambience.
Indo-Chinese items are great treats. We ordered gobi Manchurian, chicken Manchurian, hot and sour soup, chicken curry and fish curry. Each and every item tasted excellent and exceeded our expectations. Keep serving quality and tasty food. Customers will keep coming. Best wishes.
very nice establishment. i made a mistake on my order trying to use a coupon for a takeaway and they gave me a slack . ordered the lamb vindaloo , orange chicken and house spl fried rice . everything was good quality and quantity was value for money. samrath guys just hold on to what you guys are doing now .. you will be successful. bought another coupon and this time will dine in my kid loved the orange chicken better than typical chinese because it was soft .
In the mood for curry, tried there spicy goat curry, absolutely delicious and I strongly suggest the meat samosas, if you are okay with ordering them again and again because you cannot just have one. Similar to lays potato chips. Quaint store, friendly atmosphere and clean environment, definitely ordering from here again.
I went with my family on Thursday for dinner on recommendation of one of my friends. We ordered Chicken Manchurian and Egg Drop Soup for appetizers. I told him to make it very hot and spicy and it came out as one of the best in US. I also ordered Chicken Naan and Gobi Naan. That was also so nice and crispy, and the owner/chef had spent some good time to chop green chilies and added cilantro to the crispy naan and kulcha. The chef and waitress were both very friendly, prices were excellent, and me and my family have decided to come to this restaurant at least once every week. We are going back there today!
I came in from a long flight and was looking for a good place to eat, these guys really took care of me. I had the spicy goat curry, and it was wonderful. Some of the best garlic Naan I've had also. Rajesh even came out from the kitchen to make sure everything was perfect. Thanks again!
I had no clue that I had an Indian joint this close to me, so I decided to give it a try and order take out. My usual restaurant is about 4 miles down the street. Flavor was ok, but definitely not the same quality and without the same punch that I'm used to. I ordered the chicken tikka masala and basmati rice. As others have stated on here, the portions are quite small for the price. I was encouraged by seeing management responses saying they increased the portions. If this is INCREASED portions, how small were they before?!!! For $15 chicken tikka masala and 2 basmati rice orders, I got HALF the amount I get from my normal Indian restaurant down the street. Rather disappointing. I'm a 6'5" guy and I was still hungry after eating. A rather expensive, mediocre flavored snack is what you get here.
