I have the kind of job that has me traveling all over the USA, and when I get to a new location I tend to ask the locals where are the best places to eat. So on my first trip to Bath, NY, when I asked around, all five people I asked raved about San Carlos. So I just had to check them out. And I gotta tell you, it was the best Mexican food I have ever had!!! And I have had a lot, including authentic cuisine from Mexico herself. Prices were reasonable considering the generous portions. The waitresses were very attentive, and even the owner was working the floor with them. San seems to enjoy bringing that first free plate of chips and salsa to your table. I will defiantly recommend San Carlos to anyone visiting this part of New York!
I grew up in Arizona, and did not find wonderful, authentic Mexican food for 30 years! until finding San Carlos! I nearly danced in the aisle; the food is as good as the best in Tucson. The menu is extensive, service attentive and friendly, atmosphere pleasant- and they make their margaritas from scratch!! Try the San Carlo soup- as good as the chicken soup I had in Tulum,Mexico. My favorite is the beef chimichanga- but everything is great. I drive 30 minutes from my home just to eat here, and miss Arizona!!
San Carlos is the best Mexican food restaurant in the area. This is my first time trying it; and if you haven't tried it, you're missing out. Food is great; staff is super friendly, atmosphere is plesent and portions are HUGE! Will be eating here more often.
PERMANENTLY CLOSED c: Such flavorful fresh foods! Great staff and a very nice atmosphere too. This time I had the chicken burrito's and my son had the Polloloco. Real chicken not pre fab fast food. You can't beat their homemade chips and salsa.
We ate at San Carlos just outside Bath last night. And I'm glad we did. the food was good standard american-style mexican. Enchiladas, tacos, rellenos, burritos, etc. Rellenos were better than average: made there, chilis in soft batter. Salsas were good. Margaritas were servicable: sweet&sour mix, tequila, not too sweet, but not strong lime taste. Half price though on Sunday ; i certainly wouldn't say it was the best mexican food ever, although you might have to go a good distance from here to find better ... If we're back in this area, we'll stop at San Carlos again.
The food was as authentic as I could wish, and with dining experiences from Mexico City to Texas, is one of the best of this genre I've had the pleasure to visit. Sonoran cuisine is a little new to me, not as spicy, pero muy delicioso! Quick and hot. An extra shoutout to Ada, our waitress, who was attentive without being intrusive, and made us feel very welcome.
First the good part. The small margarita was surprisingly large. The presentation of the fried ice cream was a real crowd pleaser. Then there was the watery salsa and the tasteless fried chimichanga. The refried beans fainted into a soup with an occasional lump which, taking it on faith, were beans. Should friendship require me to go there again, I would try to find something better than this. Failing in that, I'll order three margaritas and a designated driver.
We love this place! We used to live a few minutes away when they were at the Days Inn. We've moved away, but still make the 50 minuted drive to San Carlos anytime we are hungry for Mexican! Try the Cheese Flautas and Chimichanga, but everything is GOOD!
The worst 54$ I've ever spent! Cold, tasteless food. Daughter was ill after eating 3 rubbery chicken wings. Don't know what happend with this place, used to be good a couple of years ago. Wait staff was attentive but not real friendly.
Some of the food was ok, if you are craving mediocre Mexican food. Just skip the salsa and refried beans. Both would be easy fixes, but apparently the cooks think diners will eat, and pay for, anything.
