Had a horrible experienced with an advisor her last name is white and is a skinny African American girl with a horrible attitude. I told her that I couldn’t sign up for my classes if she could happy and she quickly gave me an attitude by telling me I should first apply for program I want to study which I live already did. Instead of listening to me she refused to even answer my questions and told me that I shouldn’t have problems signing up for classes. She didn’t wanted to help me and acted like I was lying and was wasting her time.
The staff is generally nice and if you can actually manage to get an appointment with someone they are helpful. The people who answer the phones have very basic knowledge and are not helpful in most situations. There is a big lack of communication across the board. Have had to call over 10 times regarding one issue. Could’ve been resolved in one call if advisors would do follow ups and not let things fall through the cracks.
It's college not a day care. This is where you learn responsibility and readiness for the real world. Professor are here to do a job that doesn't mean they have to care about you, but if they do it's a plus. Like my parents used to tell me "They have their degree, you need to get yours!" That got me through college quickly!
San Jacinto College is a pretty good institution but they do not help their students! Financial aid is more like financial we dont help anyone here. The "counselors" act as if the money for financial aid comes from their pockets, when their job is to submit the forms from the students. If you can pay it with no financial aid go there otherwise dont waste your time.
This campus has great faculty. The classrooms are very comfortable and spacious. The faculty are very encouraging, supportive and helpful. There are microwaves, tables and chairs in all floors that makes breaks easier. There is ample space on all three floors to sit back, charge your equipments and work on assignments or study. This campus is open till 9 or 10 at night and very well lit all around the campus which makes it safe.
Staff seem not to know how to do anything they keep losing documents I've already submitted or sent to the school. Not to mention every time I've talked to them there is something new I have to do that no one told me about. I basically spent my whole summer going up there to talk to people, I was up there 2-3 times a week! After I was told multiple times by admissions advisors and education advisors that I was good to go and no holds were on my account I was informed by someone at a CALL CENTER they paid to answer the phone that I wasn't good to go and there were still x amount of things I had to do. So far I've had a horrible and stressful experience and class just started Monday.
I had taken around 30 classes at this school. I am already a professional, I study in a aprestigious University of Puerto Rico. The credit that I did in this university are valit in United sates. San Jacinto college did not aproved any class from my last University because they wanted me to pay again. After a long time I finish my prerequisites for nursing and when I met with the avisor told me that I need to have As in my three prerequisites. My grades are A, B and C. This grades are not bad at all. This advisor told me that others students takes those clases 2 and 3 times to get those As. I won't do that when others schools are happy with my actual GPA. I feel like they don't care about the students, they just want your money.
They make you wait 1-2 hours for your transcript if they even give it to you. You pay all this money to get your degree and they waste your time in the end
Transfer student currently trying to get in and there is a conflict with my transcripts that the financial aid office doesn't seem to want to help with. It shows that they've received a transcript from a school I've NEVER attended, but still need a transcript from the school I've actually attended and have formally requested and purchased my transcript from. The school I never attended doesn't exist, so I absolutely cannot request a letter of non- attendance. I've made my calls and appointments and was told every time that the issue was resolved and I wouldn't need to worry about it, but I feel they are so disorganized that I have to keep calling to try and get one of the items removed or switched around. At this point I'm just tired of jumping through hoops. There is no lack of professionality, rather it's the lack of help and giving me the run-around.
I’m an undocumented student attending San Jac this fall and my dad and I were sent to the south campus from the central campus to talk to the international office since we had some questions about the ADN program regarding the hurdles I may face because of my status. When we finally got to speak to the international advisor and opened up to her about our status she quickly became hostile as well as stating that she couldn’t even talk to us about classes and I wouldn’t even be able to attend San Jac because of my status. She seemed shocked whenever I told her that I was already a promise student and enrolled at San jac and went to talk to the Dean. When she came back she told us the dean wanted to talk to us. We went to deans office and had the same unhelpful attitude. She was able to answer some of our questions but everything seemed so unprofessional as if they were against us since they even had some sort of witness in there with us. It is truly unfortunate that my dad and I were only looking to have some of our questions answered and we were treated the way we did. Unfortunately this is what undocumented kids have to go through on a daily basis, kids who are ambitious to better themselves and make something out of their situation.
