The San Juan Capistrano Open Space Foundation is volunteer-run, grassroots organization dedicated to improvement and preservation of the city’s open spaces. Founded in 2009, the SJC Open Space Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit private foundation.
In this tight economy, the city is often unable to provide amenities – such as trashcans, fencing, parking, hitching posts and restrooms – or even clear brush to make the areas accessible to the public. As a result, these open space lands often lay unused and neglected for years.
To address this need, a group of local volunteers established the San Juan Capistrano Open Space Foundation. It’s mission – to make the city’s open space lands accessible and usable by all. The Board of Directors is made up of community leaders and professionals who generously donate their time and resources. Volunteers do it all – from clearing invasive weeds and building fences to handling administrative duties and paperwork – while adhering to strict city, county and state safety and permit guidelines. The money that the Foundation raises provides financial resources for these activities.
The mission of the San Juan Capistrano Open Space Foundation is to acquire and promote the preservation, restoration, expansion, improvement and public use of open space within the City of San Juan Capistrano to enrich the quality of life for area residents and visitors.
