Description

San Luis Obispo is a passenger rail station in the city of San Luis Obispo, California, United States. The station is fully staffed with ticketing and checked baggage services. The present Spanish Colonial Revival architecture style depot was built by the Southern Pacific Railroad and completed in 1942. It replaced the original SP depot, located just south of the current one, that had opened in 1895. It was demolished to make room for a parking lot in 1971.ServiceThe station is the northern terminus of Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner from San Luis Obispo to San Diego and it also serves the Coast Starlight from Seattle, Washington to Los Angeles, California. Four Pacific Surfliner trains and two Coast Starlight trains (one in each direction) serve the station daily.Of the 74 California stations served by Amtrak, San Luis Obispo was the 27th-busiest in FY2012, boarding or detraining an average of approximately 297 passengers daily.

Would Give it 5 Star's but i was charging my phone after another Guy and the Agent ran over and said no Charging Phones this is Private Property. He told me once then Twice and Three times. I replied back not only I heard you The first time but You told Me Three times. Like I was using all Their Electric and I was going to Take the Station off the Power Gri Some People.
Avid morning commuter. First train is at 6:11am, but station doesn't open til 6. People on the platform have no where to sit or wait outside except for two concrete benches. Not bad in the summer, but in the winter it's about 34°. The station should open at 5:30am so people ave a proper place to wait. Kind of ridiculous in my opinion.
A good quiet town surrounded by Hills and farms
AmTrak SLO was really quite lovely. Clean, efficiently designed with adequate facilities, and visually appealing. But, the best thing about this station was the staff. Their quiet professional, courteous presence was MOST comforting; particularly when I discovered I had created a significantly serious personal family emergency. I had left a rather important item under the seat in my sleeper cabin, and I was looking at the back of the departing train when I realized it. Both station attendants simply handled the drama and emotional stress we family of five were experiencing with quiet understanding, and efficiency. Gathered appropriate details, contacted the staff at the Santa Barbara Station who retrieved the article and returned it to the family when our train stopped in S.B. the next morning. For us, the event is now a delightfully unforgettable memory.
A small and friendly town. Surrounded by hills. Mostly run on Cal Poly university. Multiple motels, hiking trails.
Amtrak is unreliable. 4 hours delay for no reason. They updated delay status at last minute, and they were unable to provide an estimated departure time and told people to take uber/lyft to figure out their alternative transportation??? I paid more than $80 already! Finally slow snail started moving at midnight and arrived my destination at 4 am. At this awkward timing, there were absolutely no uber/lyft available anymore, I had to walk home, hoping The Silence of the Lambs doesn't happen to me....Avoid if possible.
I traveled here a few years ago on the Amtrak train with my bicycle & camping gear. Well actually I took the Surf Liner train to Santa Barbara & the Amtrak through-way bus to the SLO Amtrak Station. We had planned on camping at El Chorro Regional Park. I was the out of work member of the group who was tasked to head up there early to nab the choicest of camping spots. I never had such a great time camping. I rode a Schwinn Mtn bike which I loaded down with nearly 100lbs of gear plus my 210lbs of not the best shape of a body for a 40something late man that I was. My friend advised me there were some hills between the train station & the camp grounds. After my 3rd call to his cellie on the way up that one hill on which the local TV & radio transmitter sits on... he turned his phone off! That last hill out of SLO with 100lbs of gear requires either very in shape legs & a heart & lungs to match; or.... several stops to rest. I will never forget the nasty spandex clothed elite road cyclists who very condescendingly inquired on my state of being as I was taking one of the 5 rest stops up that hill!!! What an inspiration to improve my physical fitness!!! After assaulting that hill the rest of the ride was spectacular!!! I never have seen a county road with so many different government facilities on it. And it was so beautiful! First there is CalPoly SLO University, and then a Calif Men's Prison, County Animal control, 911 Dispatcher, Juvenile Facility, an Army National Guard Fort, A Community College, the Regional Park, a county parks golf course, sheriff’s shooting range and I do not remember the rest!!! Most of this is between the town & the park which is about 4 miles. It is only 8 miles to Morro Bay itself. I did not have any food & had planned to ride back to town or to Morro Bay but a nice lady provided me enough for dinner & breakfast PLUS 4 beers!!! There is so much to do in this area, & I am sure cell phone coverage is much better also 5 years ago. There are two lakes one can ride to and if so inclined fish or just enjoy the ride. Morro Bay is not that far away with unbelievably beautiful coast routes to follow!!! HAVE FUN!
Pretty nice and easy station. Starliner and Surfliner offer services both North and South. Total SLO vibe, but small, as expected here. Nothing exceptional, but does its job and does it well.
Well if you have to ride Amtrak you don't have a choice so who cares about reviews? Overall a beautiful station, has long term parking, good location. Note if you plan to ride the Amtrak Surfliner, the best railroad mileage in the nation is between here and Santa Barbara. As of 2017 you will pay $30-ish to ride that short trip 2 stops and you'll pay about the same to ride all the way to Burbank or LA Union Station. I was harrassed by Manny who likes to enforce rules that don't exist and he hates railroad photographers. I'll post the video soon-ish, search SLO Amtrak Manny with your favorite expletive and you'll find Manny. He's the reason this station lost three stars.
Downtown is great! Bus system gets you close to everywhere you need to go! It's Great place to live...
