Just a 5 minute detour from highway 50, down a short dirt road. It’s an easy five minute walk from the parking lot - so doable even in the heat of summer. There’s only low black rock walls left, but interpretative signs share the history and give a glimpse of what a hard place this would have been to live - as well as background on the pony express. Well worth a stop.
What a fun trail with markers about the wildlife and what the habitation is. Kids had fun looking for lizards and attempting to identify them. The old remains of the pony Express station was fascinating and really have an idea of what it would have been like back in the day. Brings an appreciation to modern, semi-reliable mail, where it is days instead of weeks.

If you're interested in the Pony Express, definitely make a stop. It's awesome you can actually walk around in the station and actually almost get a sense of how it was!

Located near Sand Mountain in the middle of the Nevada desert is an historical Pony Express stop. There are the remains of the stone structure that was once the station stop which was simply rocks layer out to form walls and rooms of a structure with no roof.
Good place to see ruins of a Pony Express station. There is an interpretative trail with signs explaining facts about the ruins. It's too bad that some people damage the structure. Also, it's near Sand Mountain, a recreation area for off road vehicles.
You can feel the short-lived history of the pony express just by standing inside the walled structure. Very cool
Sand dunes behind the historical site were AWESOME! Don't try to hike up in the summer wearing sandals or flip flops...the sand is HOT and will get in-between your foot and the shoe. Super fun stop! Also, there is a weekly or annual pass for visiting, we called the BLM and they said you can stop and visit for a short time for free.
