We lived in one of the best school districts in Montgomery County, but found that the school knew how to test our children, but not educate them. We sent one of our four children to SSFS and, within a short time, enrolled the other three. The teachers are dedicated, the administration is innovative, and the community is inclusive, caring, and supportive. In fact, we actually moved just to be near the school and more a part of the SSFS community. SSFS awakened the light within our four children. For that, we are continually grateful.
We are so lucky to be able to give this gift to our 4 children. This school is the perfect place for them to thrive and grow. SSFS has it all--rigorous academics; highly skilled, creative, and caring teachers; and wonderfully kind and friendly peers and families. Add this all to the beautiful campus, wide variety of enrichment opportunities, strong service learning program, and Quaker values, and you have a recipe for 4 happy children who LOVE going to school every day, and come home bubbling over with the rich experiences and positive social interactions they've had. We are confident that SSFS has created a life-long love of learning in our kids, and we are so thankful.
I was also a student who started in the late 70s. My experience was very different from Sarah Mahaney I don't think we knew each other. SSFS helped me develop confidence and a strong sense of myself as a learner. There were drugs and alcohol everywhere back then. All schools have had to adapt at responding to chemical use in our society. As an educator, I think SSFS is doing this in a responsible, respectful, and comprehensive way. My daughter is now a student in the upper school and I am so grateful for the care, support, and challenge she is receiving. No school is the right match for everyone, yet SSFS is doing a great job of enriching the lives of my family and many, many others.
We've been a part of this wonderful, loving community for over 13 years. Our children have thrived here. The faculty are skilled and dedicated educators who pour a great deal of time, effort, care, and thought into their work with their students and communication with parents. The staff are friendly and customer-service oriented. In our family's experience, our children and my spouse and I, have felt supported, safe, engaged, challenged, and perhaps most importantly, valued. The campus is not only beautiful, but it also serves as an important resource for academics - science in particular. The Quaker values of simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality, and stewardship, are woven into everyday life and will definitely ground our children as they move into and throughout adulthood. SSFS has been a gift to our family.
I really enjoyed the camp - summer in sandy spring so much. Actually I do not know much about ssfs but I am sure that the this school & camp was AMAZING. The environment was perfect for the kids to play & study. Thank u for the all counselors who worked at the camp and thank u so much for the American kids who played with us. I am so sad that it was my last visit to America in childhood but thank you so much ssfs for gave me fantastic experience - Korean student
Our son has attend for a year and half and he loves it. The caring and supportive environment, talent and passionate teachers, and extraordinary resources at the school make for a great learning environment. He went from dreading his prior school to loving everything at Sandy Spring!
This school, its staff and administrators have been the biggest blessing for my son. He's growing and progressing well. I'm thankful for each and every one of them.
