This is the official Facebook page of the Sangamon Aikikai, the home of Aikido in the Springfield, Illinois region. Aikido is a traditional Japanese martial art developed in the early 20th century by Morihei Ueshiba, better known as O-Sensei. Aikido does not confront an aggressive line of force, but instead blends with it and converts it to circular energy in order to neutralize the attack. It does this through joint locks and throws.
Aikido does not depend on strength for effectiveness and can be practiced by individuals of all body types and skill levels. It is known to improve stamina and increase flexibility.
