Great Curling in Schenectady since 1907!

Description

Curling started in Schenectady in 1907. R.S. Emmet, a charter member of the Mohawk Golf Club is credited with introducing the sport to Schenectady. The Schenectady Curling Club was launched as part of the Mohawk Club. By 1919, there were two sheets of natural covered ice. A fire in 1923 nearly eliminated curling in Schenectady. Again, the Emmet family was instrumental in building a three sheet facility on Front Street.

As interest and membership grew, new curling quarters were needed. By 1954 our current curling facility on Balltown Road had opened its doors. In 1953 our club opened its doors to women curlers and mixed curling was not far behind. Our teenage curling program made its debut in 1956, and in the 80’s a Little Rock program was introduced for children between the ages of six and twelve. Our current facility has four sheets of ice and an inviting “warm room” with an excellent kitchen for our members and visitors. We are a 501( c)(3) not-for-profit Sports Education organization.

"Curling started in Schenectady in 1907. Our current facility has four sheets of ice, an inviting warm room and excellent kitchen and bar facilities for our members. Recent improvements to our ice shed include a more efficient dehumidification system, new curling stones, new ice field and ice making equipment to make curling better and more enjoyable for our members! There are over 250 members of the Schenectady Curling Club. The vast majority of whom curl on a regular basis. Our members come from all walks of life and range in age from six to 85. Our club is a 501c3 Nonprofit Organization dedicated to promoting the Olympic sport of curling through training and opportunities for, but not limited to, the youth of our community."

Fun, friendly club for beginners and veterans of the sport alike! Look on the club's website for information about open house sessions and curling classes if you're interested. Highly recommended!
Members are always friendly and inviting. Getting started can be a little tricky since you need to start at the beginning or middle of the season, but the open houses are a great way to start!
