At the Masonic Temple, 420 North Washington Avenue, Scranton,Pa
Following the general wishes of a number of Freemasons, to constitute a
German Lodge of the order in this city. A meeting of a number of members
of Union Lodge #291 took place on January 25, 1864 in Lafayette Hall, with
the object to take the necessary steps to have a charter granted.
Those present were Bernhard Ofner, Ferdinand Burger, Christian Robinson,
George Graeber, John Koch, and Louis Koch. The following resolutions were then
adopted:
Resolved: that we individually and collectively petition the Right Worshipful
Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania to grant charter as a regularly constituted Lodge
with the right to work in the German and English language, and that the Lodge
be located in Scranton, Pa.
Resolved: That the name shall be "Schiller Lodge".
Resolved: That we unanimously elect and recommend:
Bernhard Ofner as the first Worshipful Master
Ferdinand Burger as the first Senior Warden
Christian Robinson as the first Junior Warden
The petition was approved by the grand Lodge, full power granted and
"Schiller Lodge No. 345" was regularly constituted on June 10, A.D. 1864
