Scholar's Studio offers innovative, interdisciplinary learning communities for first-time freshmen at Bowie State University.
We believe that education is life. College isn't about accumulating knowledge for future use. It's about encouraging students to discover their own brilliance and use it to "begin with life as [they] find it and make it better."
That's where we come in. We work in communities (because let's face it, we're stronger that way) to help students discover how to put their strengths to work inside and outside the classroom.
Students enroll in 2-4 courses that are reserved exclusively for Scholar's Studio participants. All courses are linked through a common theme, which is explored in depth throughout the semester.
Learning has no boundaries in Scholar's Studio. Past communities have traveled to New York and Philadelphia, conducted research in prisons and local communities, explored museums and monuments, engaged in debates and spoken word events, and much, much more.
Scholar's Studio offers learning communities that provide a strong foundation for academic success. We help students think across disciplines; integrate real word experiences; build community; cultivate awareness of historical, political, and social contexts; and communicate orally, aesthetically, and in writing.
