SLIS offers ALA-accredited online MLIS degree, Archival Certificate, Youth Services Certificate, LIS BS, and undergrad minor.
We serve the library and information professions in Mississippi, in other states and in some other countries by providing undergraduate and graduate programs of study for generalists and specialists alike.
The University of Southern Mississippi School of Library and Information Science is the only American Library Association accredited program in Mississippi and is one of only 61 such programs at 56 institutions in the United States.
Our graduates work in public, school, governmental, academic and corporate settings in technical services, archives, bibliographic instruction, information services and management.
The information professions do indeed have a bright future. While professionals in the field may not always hold the title "librarian," they do share similar activities: evaluating, acquiring, organizing, preserving, creating, displaying, disseminating and otherwise managing information in all its various media.
Our field has many facets and it would be our pleasure to discuss them with you. Please contact us if you have questions about the profession, its career options or our programs.
The mission of the master’s of library and information science program is to prepare qualified individuals for professional roles in libraries and other information environments with appropriate knowledge and skills to serve the information needs of their communities.
