Michael was trained and mentored under famed Denver Artist Nancy Hannum. He is one of the few select people that learned her special technique. Chalk Pastels on raw untreated canvas. Being trained under Nancy he vows to carry on her technique for the world to see! Nancy has since passed, "With love we will miss you Nancy! Sizes range from 3'X5.5' couch size to 5'x5' I do smaller works 18"x24" they take as much time sometimes trying to capture the depth in such a small area.. The medium is actually Pastel on raw untreated canvas, then I use an acrylic bonding agent to seal the canvas. This is done in a series of coats and create a seemingly self generated light from the work. It also makes light that is put on the work change the depth and range of color that you see, and it seems to pick up the colors of the room or furniture that is near it..
I was taught this Technique by Nancy Hannum and she swore me to secrecy.Nobody else in the world does this unique technique. I trained under her under paintings for a few years under a strict apprenticeship when I was 20 years old. The end result has the longevity of an acrylic but much different appearance, you can actually see the texture of the canvas even after many coats.. You really have to see them in person to get the Real spirit of the pigment I feel this Technique really allows the Spirit to move through me when I create, It is seamless movement and color, I feel like i am actually creating life on the canvas through the color, movement and pigments.
Nancy has since passed on and I am continuing to share it with you.
