This is the best library in the world! I love the social science and business books. The seating is great. You can get quiet rooms to do business meetings and conference calls. The best part are the business databases you get access to. I fully support the new York public library. I'm in love. Go to the seminars they have to benefit your skill sets. The staff are nice and super responsive too.
This has become my favorite, practical public library to come do work at. The basement has plenty of individual work stations for people with laptops. Plugs are plentiful. The seats are Aeron chairs, so I feel super productive working here. My only complaint is that the central air isn't super efficient, and sometimes it can smell worse than others. One time I sat near someone with too much cologne and it just lingered and gave me a headache. Otherwise, there are plenty of bathrooms and it's very comfortable.
This is often a great space to get some work done and has a lot of resources. But some security people just ignore things they shouldn't when it comes to people not observing library etiquette, like having loud conversations, phones on ring, loud headphones, even a guy clapping to whatever he was watching on his phone or people snoring. The bottom level is usually too smelly to sit and work. Still one of the only public libraries I've been to in NYC where etiquette is occasionally observed.
Best library in the city, hands down. Great staff, quite areas, pleasing to the eye, everything is kept very clean at all times. The Wifi has improved dramatically in the last 2 months and if you end up bringing your own Ethernet cable you will be getting 100/100 Speeds. My only complaint is the fact not all wired ports are functioning. It's a pain to have to find the ones that do, but once you know where to sit it's the best Library in the city.
My favorite library in New York. Great for working with no distractions. Quiet, clean, safe to leave your laptop when you have to walk around. Friendly staff with clean bathrooms too.
Great laptop station. But only 3 stations have cable that work for Ethernet connection. A downside many use stations to watch movies or play games on their smartphone. Also there are a few homeless people or others go to sleep.
My absolute favorite library in NYC so far. Taught myself about the stock market by taking out and reading multiple books from here. Outlets everywhere. Designated floor with rows & rows of desks for working on your laptop plus reading. Clean bathrooms, workshops for various job and business related ordeals. Visit sometime if you're in the area during business hours.
This library is a wonderful resource. The big problem is that there's one security guard who's too busy texting to do their job and do something about the smelly, snoring homeless people, guys watching porn, loud headphones and conversations, and people eating full meals and having phone conversations in the work areas of the library. It is very hard read in quiet in this library. I've been trying for years. I only go here when there aren't any other options.
They need to keep the perverts out. There are perverts who sexually harass you I've encountered 3 harassments by different people and homeless people come here to take nap the desk area on the lower level. They need to have a security policy to keep those people out! Other than that, this is a very beautiful library at a convenient location.
The Unsung Hero for NYC Small Business and Students: I have been considering a launching a new concept in the fashion industry and found myself at a loss when searching for statistics, data, demographic information on potential markets etc. It's new so there was not much available or so I thought. I was blown away when a friend who is a small business coach suggested I try the lower level of SIBL. They have subscriptions to some of the most comprehensive research available and get this - its free. This kind of information can be in the thousands of dollars and right here in the heart of Manhattan, of course its at our fingertips. The staff can be quite helpful and I had had the pleasure of running into an incredible person who could not have been more helpful and generous. If you're a small business or student or considering a venture in ANY industry, start here!
