Opened in 1999, the Museum has established itself as a leader in the arts presenting innovative exhibitions and educational programs.SMoCA engages with emerging and established artists from around the world and from our own community to support new commissions and encourage dialogue about the art of our time. A pretty good art museum although a smaller one. The art exhibits are very interesting and the staff are nice, informative. One can spend 1-1:30 hours easily. There’s a small souvenir shop in the entrance. I used the culture pass offered by Tempe public library as an entry ticket to this art museum. Very well maintained.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree
The relaxed atmosphere of the space allows one to fully engage with each piece in the collection. Contemplation and reflection are encouraged. The staff are very knowledgeable about the artists, their motivations, their process and style. Do not sleep on the desert garden that surrounds the building. Stunning views that may spur questions regarding the nature of light, color, and physics -- not to mention the superlative examples of local Flora.
Great staff, very friendly and knowledgeable. The space itself is open and cooled well. The exhibits are always thought provoking and interesting. I highly recommend checking it out. I personally like grabbing a cocktail at AZ88 first.
I got a free pass to come visit this museum from the Phoenix public library, but it’s well worth the small admission fee they charge if you don’t have a pass. The entire museum is pretty small so I’d say you could probably spend 1-2 hours total here, depending how on depth you like to read into the pieces. The exhibitions seem to change on a regular basis so if there’s something you’d like to see definitely make a plan to do so. When I visited a lot of the art was centered on social issues, and young artists work. Overall I really enjoyed my experience here and will definitely be returning again.
Interesting space place and the structure of it is worth the visit on a free day, the art is and fun and sometimes can be conversation starters with many different opinions. Check out the surrounding area as well.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree
Small but mighty! Love that this museum is included as a reciprocal museum with a PHX art museum membership. It’s thoughtfully curated.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo

Wow! They have a salvador Dali work, there's a beautiful outdoor courtyard there's lots of works by famous artists , beautiful architecture, and they just installed a new exhibit this weekend My favorite part of the musiem was the gallery that included works selected by employees/staff members . Each work had a description from the staff member who picked it as to why it was significant to them ! The courtyard featured several "sky scapes" by an artist I was familiar with Wednesday nights are free
Always awesome exhibits. Friendly staff and outstanding place to visit on a regular basis. We have been visiting the museum for over 8 years. Take the time to visit next visit to Old Town Scottsdale. Highly recommended
