Stayed on the island, primitive camped, nice area, but buggy. Woke up and so enjoyed the early AM walk around the island. Great little anchorage as well
Love this place. The views are fantastic and the little cove is well protected from all but North winds. Can get rolly in a swell, especially around high tide. The moorings are spaced very tightly. Probably not good for anything larger than our 36' power boat. The metal CG mooring buoy will bang on your hull in light winds. Great hike up to the top, and the caretakers will give a tour of the lighthouse if they're available.
If you don't mind getting your feet wet coming off your boat and then walking up a path that quickly goes up, you'll be rewarded with a personal tour of Maine's highest lighthouse. Its situated on a Island that is only accessible by boat. The visit, priceless, but buy something from the small gift shop or join the preservation society. You won't be disappointed in your visit.
If you have your own inflatable for making a landing, this is a fabulous adventure! There are four or so public moorings, and a small sand beach to land on. Once you are on the island, the friendly caretakers are happy to show you around and open up the lighthouse for climbing. Plenty of trails and lots of history here. Best of all, the gift shop accepts Venmo if you're someone who is always forgetting their wallet like I do!
If you've been on the water in the southern end of Mid Coast Maine, you've no doubt seen Seguin Island Light, but if you've never been there it's worth a visit. Even during COVID you can explore the island, though you won't be able to go into the lighthouse. When thi gs returns to normal you can expect to find volunteer guides who will take you to the top for truly breathtaking views. There is a small mooring field at the foot of the path that will take you to the top. It's a steep climb, but the path is well maintained.
I didn't have enough time to fully enjoy my visit. I was on my way to a hurricane hole on my sailboat to avoid hurricane Henri. Take advantage of the lighthouse tour. I don't know many that you can actually visit that are still active. There are also lots of trails that you can walk for a break from boating.
Beautiful views, excellent tour by Friends of Seguin volunteer, and walking trails we plan to go back to explore.
Had an amazing day sail getting there. Great hiking and spectacular views. We swam from the back of the boat just outside of the cove. Bracingly cold, but totally refreshing in the summer sun. Caretaker/hosts were very knowledgeable about both the Lighthouse and the island.
Great views, perfect picnic spot
Wonderful day trip. If you use the ferry, avoid the weekends as they do not allow you much time on the island. Come on a week-day instead.
