Description

Transportation Services transports approximately 32,000 students to and from daily on 400 established routes. School bus service is provided to approximately 47% of the students that attend Seminole County Public Schools. Approximately 8,500 field trips were provided to our school system last year by Transportation Services. School buses traveled approximately eight (8) million miles to provide the above services. They also provide service to our district seven (7) days a week, 24 hours each day.
The school bus is truly an extension of the classroom, and a vital part of Seminole County Public Schools. To provide the above services, Transportation Services employees total approximately 626 drivers, monitors, mechanics, and administrative and clerical support staff.
Some of the Transportation Department's key departments are:
Transportation Support
Routes and Scheduling
School Bus Operations
Fleet Services
The Routes and Scheduling section provides routing by utilizing EDULOG, an automated routing system. Prior to EDULOG, school bus routes development required months, now the route preparation time is weeks. The EDULOG Routes and Scheduling system provides maps and student information to support district administration. Four (4) routing specialists facilitate the process by validating the information and are the final link in the development of the individual routes. They also collaborate with school administration at student IEP meetings and parent conferences.
Fleet Services and Garage Operations are responsible for maintenance of 400+ school buses and approximately 180 district vehicles. School buses are inspected every 29 workdays and district vehicles receive regularly scheduled preventive maintenance as well. The garage facility consists of a parts room, 18 working bays, a tire room, and upholstery shop.

The Operations Department works daily to provide the safest, most efficient transportation available. School Bus Operations is responsible for daily services provided by 430 school bus drivers and 115 monitors. Six (6) area managers supervise the school bus drivers and monitors that are located at eight (8) different compounds. The Operations Department communicates with the school administration, participating daily in student behavior concerns. They also collaborate with school administration at student IEP meetings, parent conferences and school PTA meetings. The Operation's Safety Manager is responsible for investigating all accidents involving district vehicles. In addition, the Safety Manager also focuses on all other aspects of safety and addresses issues as they arise.
Training of school bus drivers is an important part of the total program. Before driving a school bus, drivers are fingerprinted and screened to ensure eligibility for hire. In addition, their driving records must meet a specific criteria listing certain offenses that will disqualify them as a candidate for a school bus driver. Then candidates must pass a rigorous 40+-hour course, including behind the wheel training, defensive driving techniques, first aid, stress management, and discipline procedures. Further, each year drivers and monitors receive over 20 hours of additional training including both new skills/procedures and review of current practices.
Transportation Services has won the Florida State Safety Skills Competition six times since 1984 and has placed in the top three 14 times. Individual drivers from Seminole County Schools have also advanced to the International Safety Skills Competition seven times, winning the International Championship in 2000. Success like this can only be achieved from true dedication.
Transportation Services participates on two committees which consist of parents, law enforcement, emergency medical personnel, administrators, Department of Transportation, and the American Automobile Association. These committees are the Community Traffic and Safety Team (CTST), and the School Safety Advisory Committee (SSAC). These committees meet once a month to discuss and review vehicular and pedestrian access safety for public schools, requests for bus service and safety provisions associated with designated bus stops.
Parents who have concerns about the safety of their students getting to school are encouraged to contact the Transportation Services department. If they do not feel the district has sufficiently addressed their concern, parents may write to the School Safety Advisory Committee, c/o Transportation, 822 E State Road 434, Winter Springs FL 32708. In your letter, detail any specific concerns about the matter and please include a map of the area. The committee will take the matter under consideration at its next monthly meeting.
The success of SCPS Transportation Services come from a collaborative effort of many. Through the support of everyone, we will continue to provide the very best service to the students and parents of Seminole County Public Schools.

I’m new to Florida as my son and I just moved from Ohio. We received an email for his pick up location and drop off for the bus and expected my son who’s in elementary to cross two main intersections 46A to get to his pick up. I did not think that was safe so I emailed transportation back voicing my concern to get a response back saying “According to your address in the system, you are under two miles from the school. No transportation will be provided.” So first thing that came to my head was then why say he was accepted for transportation in the first place then I looked up walking distance to the school from our home which is 1.8 miles from the school which according to google maps is a 37 minute walk for a student whose attending elementary school and the initial pick up location being 46A & ….. don’t want to list exact spot due to safety for the other students which ends up being a 1.6 mile walk from the school So how come that’s acceptable but where we live isn’t acceptable and how is that an acceptable distance for a student of 4th grade level to walk that distance? I’m the only person who my son has an I start my job at 6am an don’t get out sometimes until 6-7 pm 6days a week i don’t think this acceptable walking distance according to the 2 mile rule these expectations of a student at elementary level is outrageous I also spoke with people from transportation and another employee of Bentley Elementary who told me to pay for before and after school daycare so they can be picked up there. As if money grows on trees. I’m very disappointed with Seminole County Transportation and their rules. I guess back home in Ohio we had one good thing lol we lived not even a 3 min drive to his old school and transportation still picked him up and dropped him off.
I have had multiple experiences with Transportation and none of them have been good. Luckily they were fixed but I did have to escalate the situation all the way to the Transportation superintendent. However, now I am moving and I was told it’s going to be 10 days or more for a new bus because the bus drivers do the routing. When I went to verify that she was telling me it was gonna take two weeks or more she cut me off and said you can check back in that timeframe to get an update. I don’t know how these people get paid to do nothing AND have bad customer service with the parents but something really does need to be done because this is not acceptable.
This department is definitely NOT doing their job. My daughters Bus went missing for 2, yes TWO HOURS! I waited at the bus stop for my 6 year old, never received a late notice call/email/message or even when I called to ask, they had no idea what happened and were never able to justify ANY reason of WHY the bus was missing for 2 hours. unacceptable to say the least.
I have tried calling at least 20 times and no answer then the phone hangs up. My child caught the bus the first day then today the bus driver kicks kids off saying the bus was too full. If I wasn’t there my child would have waited over 30 mins for another bus. The bus driver was rude to another child and told the child to pick up a napkin that dropped out the bus drivers hand. If you don’t like your job then find another but this is a horrible experience for my child especially it being her first time catching the bus. It’s not our fault they not getting paid enough. If I could give them ZERO stars I would. I've been trying to reach transportation for 2 years. Yes 2 years. Every time I get routed through some ridiculous phone tree that either hangs up on me, just beeps, or sends me back in the circle of automated phone hell. They finally came out with an app, but the contact number is wrong and there is no way to reach anyone. For years my son's bus stop is far from home, at a home that operates a business and has no children in the school district. There are several homes with pitbulls that often run the streets so we can't walk to the bus stop, and when we drive, we get confronted with traffic coming in and out of the gates of the home of the bus stop so we've actually missed the bus waiting for cars to get out of the way so we can park because even if the bus driver sees us, she drives right by if we aren't stopped where we should be. I've tried to reach transportation services to help us but never can. The school just tells us they can't help us and we're stuck dealing with this year after year. If I wasn't a working parent I would drive my child to school but it's not an option.
The bus driver was trying to write me up for asking for the managers information and she refused to give it to me
I love it!! My bus driver and my routes are so quick and easy so it doesn’t take long at all to get to and from school on the bus, and if in case our bus doesn’t show up they get someone from another bus to take us and it’s a much quicker route
Worst! 2 years in a row I have requested transportation for my son and 2 years in a row the Schools say Transportation messed up, And then, Transportation blames the School, BOTH leave the parent in the middle and the kid with no ride to school! I can't ask my boss if I can come to work an hour late and to leave an hour and a half early for the next 7-10 days the school and transportation says it will take to fix it! I asked if he could just get a temporary pass and I was told NO. Again, I requested transportation over a month ago, I called to confirm it, and it's an already established route and bus stop....this is ridiculous!
I’ve tried calling a thousand times and no answer to emojis number or the other one. It just hangs up on me. This is scary. No wonder they have such horrible reviews. I need transportation for my daughter and it’s like they’re ghost and don’t give a flying saucer about anything or working like picking up the phone when people call seems like I’m not the only one!
They really is putting kids in harms way and something needs to be done about this asap. All of a sudden they switch bus stops now my child have to walk through woods make two turn up a long street to get home and the bus stop they removed they pass it everyday…something needs to be done and on top of that I’ve been calling since Aug 10 and still no answer!
