Sergio's Caffe

An update: when trying to decide where to eat last night, I immediately dismissed Sergio’s because there was an event on Mill St and I assumed we’d NEVER get a table. We decided to eat at another downtown restaurant, instead. After waiting AN HOUR for a table even though the restaurant was only about 50% full, we left, resigned that we’d have to get fast food somewhere because of our tight schedule. We walked down to Mill St and thought we’d salvage some of the night and at least get a sweet treat to take home. I noticed Sergio’s wasn’t 100% full so we popped in and asked how long the wait was. She seated us right away. Another person came and set the table as soon as we sat down. She took our drink order immediately. Then, our food order. Another person brought us bread. A short time later our food arrived and it was delicious. We were checked on by our server and one other person. We were in a hurry due to losing an hour at the other place and they whisked us in and out with to go boxes in hand in about 35 minutes. The food was delicious! The service as fabulous!! THAT’S how you run a restaurant!! I met a friend here for dinner and am so glad she chose this place! I was too busy catching up to remember more than just the one picture of my half eaten dinner - but the atmosphere is nice, the service was good, and my dinner is my new favorite dish! I had the gnocchi with walnuts, fresh spinach, and a Gorgonzola sauce. YUM-O!! Rich and delicious! My friend had the salmon salad and said it was amazing! Will definitely go back and try more dishes!

Great little Italian restaurant in Grass Valley. We both enjoyed our plates but felt each serving lacked seasoning and spice.Food: 4/5

To be fair, it does call itself a caffè, so maybe 3 stars for the atmosphere isn't enough. Very good food, nice presentation, generous portions and friendly wait staff. The chocolate mousse dessert is large enough to be shared. We plan to visit again.Food: 5/5

Ordered the vegetarian sandwich with a side salad for $15. Nice mix of sauteed vegetables. Would order that item again. Vegetarian options: There were several vegetarian pasta options on addition to the sandwich.

Didn't expect much, but the salmon salad was great... salmon fresh and not fishy! Then went a couple weeks later and had the swordfish. Also quite good. Wine prices very reasonable. Would go there again!Food: 5/5

Probably one of my three favorite restaurants in the entire world. This is our third visit and it just keeps getting better. Service by an attractive bordering on wildly gorgeous! wait staff, foods and libations served up in style plus an upbeat, relaxed atmosphere never disappoint. Several daily specials are always available to tempt the palate, and resistance is futile, so enjoy!

I had the salmon. It was good. A little pricey since it came with some riasted potatoes whichbwere a little over done. Last time we were there I thought we had a nice bread prior but this time it was garlic bread that was just ok. My husbands oyters were not good. There was a funky taste indicating that they could be bad so he didn't eat them. He let our waiter know. He was just concerned about getting sick from them . We were not looking for a new meal we just wanted the chef to know. She said no one else had complained about them. Either way she gave a complimentary dessert which was nice but again not expected. Atmosphere was great ,we sat outside.

Great food! Generous portions! Fabulous service! Will be back! We had the fruit & cheese appetizer, spinach ravioli, fettuccine alfredo, the lasagna, & the spaghetti and meatballs. Sadly forgot to get a picture of the mousse but it was fantastic!

Unfortunately we thought this looked like a fun place to have a family experience, but alas it was a blunder. Forgotten orders, forgotten ingredients, poorly plated food, and sloth like service to boot. Some food was good, but a lot of what was served was highly questionable and not very flavorful of what showed up anyway Probably won't make another appearance at this restaurant. Not a good first impression for me coming to downtown Grass Valley for the first time. Kid-friendliness: The kids food was done well, but doesn't say much about everything else.

It was a shock to find out I was gluten sensitive as an adult. So going to an Italian restaurant doesn't sound like a smart choice for someone like me. However, Sergio's Caffe has filet mignon with mashed potatoes and veggies on their menu. It is a tasty meal. They have fish dishes, salads, and other possible choices for people with food sensitivities. That is why I continue to go back.
