Beautiful area with a water mill and beach area. Nice picnic shelters and clean restrooms. There is a playground for children. Across the street is Sgt Yorks home with tours. In behind the house is a trail that leads to a replica of the WWI trenches. The trail leads on through the woods to a swing bridge, but sadly, it fell down last year during a storm and has not been replaced!
The rangers are very knowledgeable! This is a great place to visit to have a piece of history come to life. Alvin & Gracie York's home is well preserved. The tour is very affordable. We encourage families to take their kids~
A great stop to learn about the life of Alvin York beyond his heroics during WWI. Also, nice historic overview of the period in that corner of America
Plenty of parking, great place to stop, take a walk, go to the bathroom, walk the dog and have a picnic, and let the children play on the playground. You can walk down to the water, enjoy the great view. There is an old corn mill there you can go inside and visit. Playground: Was well kept, clean and everything looked to be in good condition Restrooms: Restroom was clean and very convenient. Dog-friendliness: Plenty of grass to walk your dog, or in the summer to let your dog take a swim
Beautiful place. Lots of history. The park has pavilions and picnic tables. Great place for a family gathering.
My kids really enjoyed their time swimming in the waterfall. Restrooms: I didn't need to use their restrooms. But their outdoor shower does have a pinhole leak. LOL Dog-friendliness: Yes, there were 2 couples that had a German Sheppard and a Lap Dog. Picnic area: We were sitting at a metal mesh picnic table with metal mesh connected picnic seats.
We did my husband's Celebration of life at the Gristmill shelter#2 it was a favorite place of ours. We weren't allowed to sell anything for the memorial bench but we had an amazing day with family and friends. Playground: There's 2 play areas with slide, swings and climbing Restrooms: Are located close to the shelters Dog-friendliness: I didn't see no signs saying the were not allowed. But seen a cute little pomeranian. Picnic area: You can reserve the two shelters but theres other tables and grills around the ground.
At first glance it appears like the patk doesn't have much to offer. Many people appreciate for the historical value. Many enjoy hiking and fishing along the banks of Wolf River. At the mill there is a playground and people play in the water below the dam. Above the dam people fish. It is often stocked with trout. My favorite activity was kayaking up the Wolf River which is also an excellent way to fish the river. To see our adventures subscribe to SIMPLE LIFE BIG ADVENTURES on YouTube.
Me and my family finally came here yesterday for a picnic, and to check out the historical sites. We were pleasantly surprised! Our first stop was to the old mill area. I wish I had known there was a beach at the river/dam area because we would have brought swim suits! But there’s a lot of picnic benches and covered pavilions to enjoy. A really nice playground/swing area, and the beach section is great. Nice water falling, shallow areas to explore and look for river rocks. It was really nice. The mill itself was cool too. It’s from 1880. We then went over yo the York home, which is only open during tours, and as masks were enforced we didn’t go inside. But I’m sure it was cool. We also walked to the WWI bunker replica, and took the walking trail all the way down to the suspension bridge that crosses the river. Over all it was a great day and the area is beautiful. There’s also a general store right there as well. We will definitely be back to spend a whole day by the water next time!
We had such a great visit here! Started off with a $3 guided tour of the York home under 12 are free. The guide was super friendly and knowledgeable. We walked across a swinging bridge to the burial site and church. The kids enjoyed getting to experience the trenches as well. Then we had a picnic at the Mill and dipped our feet in the Wolf River. Definitely recommend!
