READ THIS REVIEW!! Months ago, I had an appointment with Shah. Showed up at his office expecting the normal 2 to 2 and 1/2 hr wait. Sign on the door said office was closed "due to covid." It's a 45 minute drive from my residence to his office. I went to him for several years, during which he was unable to properly diagnose and treat my gastro problems. Wait times with an appt were always in excess of 2 hrs, This was the final straw, and I decided to get a different gastroenterologist. Why couldn't his staff send an email saying my appt was cancelled????? Short answer: because he and his staff were incompetent. I say "were" because for 3 months, my new gastroenterologist has been trying to get my medical records from Shah, without getting them, despite multiple requests. When I called Shah's office today, the call was forwarded to an answering service, from whom I found out he closed his office and retired months ago. Whatever "service" I spoke with said they'd try to access my records "remotely," and forward them to my new gastro. I've spent 3 months suffering because this a hole "doctor" could not properly announce he was retiring, and his worthless staff couldn't do something as simple as fax my records. Guess I'll get to endure yet another colonoscopy because of Shah and his incompetent staff. THANKS LOSERS!
To say Dr. Shah is incompetent is an understatement! My question is this: How does a physician show up to perform a procedure without knowing why he's performing it? To add this idiot, and the accompanying techs did not have my chart! Unprofessional at the very least. Also, Dr. Shah was in street clothes at the time I was wheeled into the procedure suite, no surgical gown, no booties, no gloves! It is in my opinion that if any procedure was performed, it was done by one of the techs in the room that was dressed accordingly. I never met this man prior to this day, just his equally arrogant nurse practitioner a month before. I am of the opinion that it is not my job, nor duty to tell the Dr. why I am having a colonoscopy, nor any other technical issues constituting one. It was funny because I had to explain to him why I was having this done, where I got my information, where it was done at,etc., and here's the funny part: when he asked me some technical questions he didn't think I had the answers to, I simply replied;"If you had my chart you would know this information" at which time he spoke a phrase, which in my opinion was a code I was knocked out in an instant! guess i pissed him off, In my opinion, if anyone has had a similar or equally bad experience with this Dr., by all means consult an attorney! He's been disciplined for similar, and more heinous things. Do Not See This Doctor!!!!
Dr Umesh was very thorough in answering my questions regarding results from another GI doctor. I needed a second opinion from a man with credible understanding of my GI issues. The staff was kind and helpful in making appointments and the dr was very informative. I felt my worries lessen once he explained my results clearly to me from my procedures and my blood work.
The office may be slow, but you couldn't find a more experienced GI doc. I saw several GI doctors, and Dr. Shaw finally fixed what was wrong - won me over. He involves you in the decision making process, treats you like a colleague and doesn't talk "down" to you - very pleased with him as a doctor. I'd like a better office staff, but I choose a doctor based on their experience and ability to take care of a patient. To me, he excels in his speciality - so glad I found him.
Avoid this office and doctor at all costs!! The "doctor" performed an endoscopy and their billing office told me it will be covered by insurance, so I went ahead and agreed to the procedure. After completing the procedure the "doctor" said I was fine; however when I had them send my results to another GI specialist they clearly saw multiple peptic ulcers. HOW ARE YOU A GI SPECIALIST AND CANNOT DETECT THE REASON YOU DID THE PROCEDURE?!?! To make matters worse, the billing department lied to me and the procedure was not covered by my insurance!! Rather than fight it I decided to sign up for a payment plan. I informed the billing department that my phone number and address changed so they can send the billing statement to my new address. One month later I received a letter from a COLLECTION AGENCY. Never have I been so disgusted by both a "doctor" and his billing department. Incompetency would be a compliment for this office. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!
I can't comment on the quality of the medical care, but the front office administration here is absolutely horrible. Between their mistakes in ordering the wrong CT scans for me and an office computer outage that somehow lasted a full week, I had a total of four appointments cancelled by this incompetent staff. My original follow-up appointment set three weeks after my initial visit was pushed back to over three months later, at which point I threw my hands up and sought out a different specialist. If you were assigned to this office by your HMO medical group, get on the phone with them now and demand to be referred elsewhere. You will be saving yourself months of frustration.
My Doctor sent me to this “specialist “. You actually never see the “specialist “ until you’re in the procedure room. I had a coloscopy and an upper endoscopy. Different times. After the second procedure I was told to make a follow up appt in two weeks. I called the next day and was told they couldn’t see me for 6 weeks. At the end of 6 weeks they called an hour before my appt to cancel and reschedule for 2 more weeks. I felt once they got the procedures done the money makers I wasn’t relevant anymore. I still have pain after months but won’t go back there.
Dr Shah saved my life. Yes, I read the review about the long wait times, he does have very long wait times, but if you want a doctor who will do everything in their power to get you well, Dr Shah is the one to go to. I love the staff and they are very helpful. I have talked to others who complained about the wait times, but they also agreed that you can't find a better gastro in that area. The reason why there is such long wait times, he takes his time and writes everything down and he listens to everything you say. Great doctor and wouldn't change him for the world.
Dr. Umesh C. Shah, MD is the most incompetent, non-caring medical practitioner I have ever encountered. The procedure performed by Dr. Shah on me: 1 Upper Endoscopy Followed immediately by a: 2 Colonoscopy I was admitted Chino Medical Center on 9/15/2004 the night before with symptoms. The morning of my emergency procedure Dr. Shah showed up at my bedside with two people in street clothes. A male and a female in their early twenties. He did not introduce them to me and did not discuss the procedure or give me any awareness as to what to expect. I was not told the procedure would not be conducted in a normal surgical suite. I was wheeled me into an office an put on a examination table, not a surgical suite as expected. One of the nurses gave me a pain medication and Dr. Shah jammed a long tube down my throat while I was still wide awake and the so-called pain medication had not even kicked in. I was gagging while experiencing excruciating pain when I noticed the two kids were present in the room still in their street clothes presumably to observe. This act of allowing these kids in this environment broke medical protocol big time. Caregivers is required that any patient sign a release in order to allow a any non-staff observers into an invasive medical procedure. So by the time they got to the colonoscopy I had an unknown twenty-something year old girl in street cloths watching close-up while this probe was being jammed up my rear end. All the while, I was screaming and in, by far, the worst pain I have ever experienced. I also felt violated because I knew this so-called "MD" was way off-base letting these two kids into the room. It was an outrage. Here is part of a email I sent to Dr. Lally, the attending physician, at Chino Medical Center where all this happened. "In case you don't know, I spoke with Dr. Shah last week about the excruciating pain I experienced and he made some shocking statements to me as follows: a He actually said "if I was in pain I should have said something." Of course that was impossible with an apparatus jammed down my throat! b Next he claimed he was not aware I was in pain even though I was gagging on the instrument when it was down my throat. Than he admitted he upped the amount of pain medication due to my overt groaning once the lower was underway. Check the paperwork for proof that the pain medication was inadequate and he tried to increase it but of course it was way too late. c Next he flatly denied the unwelcome intruders were even present during the procedure but when I called him on it–by reminding him these two individuals accompanied him to our my bedside discussion prior to the procedure. He finally admitted they were part of his entourage. d He stated he was unaware he needed written permission from me for these people to be present. A VERY UNPROFESSIONAL AND A LAME EXCUSE. CVMC is responsible for this breach of privacy because, though you deny that he is an employee, it's your facility and you should have a policy in place in this regard. e I asked him why I was not put under a "General" and he stated he "doesn’t believe in it," and abruptly terminated the conversation. f Dr. Shah is, in my opinion, is a neanderthal medical practitioner. Honestly, I felt like I was on a table at Auschwitz-Birkenau and was being experimented on by Joseph Mengele. Contemporary pain management was definitely sorely lacking and I paid a high pain index price which was NOT necessary. It in clear Dr. Shah doesn’t care if a patient suffers unnecessarily–also clear from my phone discussion with him." Dr. Lally, to his credit, after he heard this, he offered to accept only my insurance payment for this $35,000+ shocking cost for 18 hours in the hospital. And Dr. Lally said to me he was going to nail this quack. nail this quack is my phrase--not Dr. Lally's. He used different yet still unflattering words which I can't exactly fully remember and I don't want to mis-quote him Don't even think about going near Dr. Shah! At least not for medical care.
