Shaw Butte Elementary School, in the Washington Elementary School District, serves more than 1,000 prekindergarten through sixth grade children in the neighborhood bordered by Sweetwater Avenue to the north and Peoria Avenue to the South, from I-17 to 15th Avenue. Shaw Butte affords students a rich curriculum aligned to Arizona College and Career Ready Standards. We are currently participating in the University of Virginia turnaround program. The project focuses on improving student achievement through:
• Teacher collaboration;
• Administering interim assessments and analyzing student data results regularly and often;
• Changing instruction, if the data results indicate
Shaw Butte uses Make Your day as our schoolwide discipline plan, which is based on a philosophy that promotes development of an internal focus of control in students. The basic tenets of this philosophy are built on human dignity and responsibility.
