Shawn has been an attorney since 1988. Her career extends of all aspects of family and criminal law. Shawn has served as an assistant prosecuting attorney, a solo practitioner and family court referee. As a trial attorney Shawn has successful defendant clients in criminal matters from simple traffic violations, misdemeanors, felonies including capital offenses, criminal sexual misconduct and 1st degree murder. Shawn has tried hundreds of jury trials.
As a family law attorney Shawn represents mothers, father and children from simple divorces to complicated custody matters. In her 13 years as a family court referee she presided over thousands of custody, parenting time and child support hearings. Shawn is a certified family law mediator. In her roles as court administrator for the friend of the court and 61st District Court, Shawn has served as the staff attorney to provide legal advise to staff, establish policies and present cases to the court.
Shawn has been involved in educational programs for judges, referees, court staff, lawyer and the public. She has served as a faculty member and guess lecturer for the Michigan Judicial institute, Ingham and Eaton County Bar Associations, Friend of the Court Association, Referee association, Michigan State University College of Law and many other local and civic organizations. Shawn has also volunteered her time as a mock trial judge for high school and law school competitions, has served as a teen court judge and board member of the Ingham county bar association and Boys and Girls Club of Lansing.
Shawn was honored to be appointed to the State of Michigan Friend of the Court Citizens Advisory Committee and has been actively involved in the friend of the court association, referee association, domestic violence committees and family law section of the state and local bar associations.
