Shawnee Apartments

This apartment complex is amazing! It is clean, neighbors are friendly, and their maintenance team is reliable and quick! A rare find. I was locked out of my apartment on Easter and the maintenance man was here within an hour as he promised. Don’t let the reviews deceive you, Shawnee Apartments is a hidden gem in the wonderful and family friendly Penrose neighborhood. There’s a washroom on every floor so you have options if a washer/dryer isn’t working on the floor you live on. The leasing consultant Janay sorry if I spelled her name wrong is the most friendly down to earth non-judgmental leasing agent in this area! For the price the apartments are spacious with wood floors, very easy to clean and maintain. If you want the newest appliances & amenities this place isn’t for you you can find plenty of those apartments in Arlington with a hefty price tag.

What is this place? Just simply trying to get a tour for an apartment is like jumping through hoops. My roommates and I reached out multiple times to schedule a viewing, and each time we were told, at the last second, that there were no units available for viewing. Even after confirming our scheduled tours with the leasing office MANY times. I honestly think we dodged a bullet. Future renters, beware. This place oozes unprofessionalism, and I don’t even live here!

Did a private tour. I think they were in the middle of remodeling. Building is noticeably outdated, but many VA homes are. Certain areas were smelly though. They're pretty affordable, but the remodeling might change that. Good luck.

The location is great and rent is affordable considering the area. However, the apartments are old and not remodeled. There are bugs and I need to spray regularly in my kitchen to keep them at bay. The front-loading washers are an absolute disaster. They often don't work and it's always a gamble on if I'll be wringing out six cups of water from my clothes because the spin cycle doesn't work. No refunds and you get the added bonus of paying twice to get the clothes dry. There is a laundry mat near by. Most neighbors are kind and friendly. I have had issues with one obnoxious person screaming constantly. Still trying to track down the apartment to report his obscene screaming over what appears to be a video game. This place is not somewhere I'd be staying longer than the end of my lease. There's rarely a unit open. The cheap price doesn't excuse the bugs or awful laundry situation. But, It does explain why the property company won't be upgrading any time soon. Or why they aren't motivated to do much about it. People keep renting and they're making money.

New elevator installed 4 days later does not work. Hard to find parking at 9:30 at night. Lobby clean.

Great location, but the neighbors and building is infested with large bugs and mice. Had to kill a two inch bug this morning with a telephone book.
