About Patty Szelega:
As an adult student I graduated from the Cosmetology Program at Broome-Tioga BOCES. After I graduated, I worked for Fantastic Sam's for 5 years and Studio West for 1 year. I then continued my education at Broome Community College and SUNY Oswego to complete my degree as a Vocational Education Teacher. In 2000 I was selected to be Vice President of the Triple Cities Cosmetology Association. As the Vice President, my responsibilities are to educate 350 salons monthly, keeping them up-to-date on the cosmetology profession, current hair styles, cuts, colors, and all salon services. I am also certified through the American Cancer Society in the "Look Good, Feel Better" program, helping cancer patients with skin care and wigs. In addition, I also aid in educating them on how to take care of their beauty even after they go home. Shear Heaven opened in September of 2000. It has been a very successful 13 years. While running the salon I also work at the United Methodist Homes where I care for many elderly people from all sorts of backgrounds. Working at the United Methodist Homes has given me great experience working with the elderly and their special needs.
