The formation of Shell Point Charter School will offer our community, our children, and educators the opportunity for a small, innovative, public school choice in Beaufort County.
Shell Point Charter School′s Planning Committee intends to submit an application to the Beaufort County Board of Education to open a charter school as part of the Beaufort County school district.
The application will be sent to the BCSD Superintendent, as well as the State Charter Advisory Committee, as soon as it has been completed. The application will be for an elementary school of 360 students, Kindergarten through 5th grade, opening in August of 2012. Shell Point Charter School intends to expand by one grade level of 60 students each year from 2013 through 2016, ultimately capping enrollment at 8th grade.
The projected grade span and enrollment includes the addition of a 20 student Kindergarten class in 2013 and the addition of a 20 student first grade class in 2014, bringing our five year total enrollment to 600 students.
Shell Point′s vision is to create a small, diverse learning community that actively engages students in meaningful and innovative learning experiences. Emphasizing learning by doing, family and community involvement, and engaged citizenship, Shell Point is committed to nurturing the whole child and preparing each student for a global society.
We believe that people are empowered by their independent use of information technologies and that they are united by opportunities to share resources and communicate in our local and global communities. In this Information Age, it is essential that Shell Point Charter School commit to preparing its students to work in an evolving, information-centered, global community. Given the rapid pace of technological change and the growth of information technologies in all aspects of our lives, it is critical that students become familiar with the tools of information technology. All students and staff must be competent in using these tools to obtain information, communicate, and to solve problems.
