I love this place and cannot wait to go back. An absolute must for any hiker or nature lover. All sorts of trails for beginners up to pro hikers. We saw all kinds of wildlife! Birds, butterflies, raccoons, deer, bunnies, a beautiful fox and last but not least a BEAR! what a majestic and amazing animal to see in person. Park employees were all wonderful. We stayed in Big Meadows which was very nice and the restaurant food was phenomenal which was not expected. I will go back just for the mushroom ravioli and blackberry cobbler. Be advised there is zero service in the park which is actually perfect for a nature getaway. So many amazing views and we swam in natural pools and saw some waterfalls. Can’t wait to visit this beautiful place again.
We have been here in the late Winter and during Summer, the latter was definitely a better experience. The park is absolutely beautiful, super lush and full of wildlife. We did the Skyline Drive, stopping at different spots for hikes. The park has bathrooms in several locations. We stopped at one of their restaurants for lunch and the food was decently priced and pretty good. The park is so big that we felt like we were alone most of the time, even though we went on a Saturday. Stunning National park and great for views, hikes, and adventure. Restrooms: There are several restrooms along the skyline drive and on campsites. They were clean and well-kept.
Great drives, beautiful overlooks and plenty of trails, easy to extremely challenging. Some really cool nature programs as well. Dogs are welcome both on trails and in some of the lodges.
Shenandoah NP is a stunning park that offers the visitor to view it from their car. There are numerous outlook points and to try and do them in one day is possible. Hiking is a main attraction and there is at least one waterfall that we sadly did not see. We stayed in Skyland Resort which had a view of the mountain. Restaurant was lovely, and Susan, in the gift shop was the best.
Skyline drive was absolutely beautiful! The main visitor center was very well stocked with interesting souvenirs and local goods. There was also a little restaurant which was very enjoyable as well! We went on a free admission day and it wasn’t as busy as we expected. We will definitely be back on a slightly cooler day to do some hiking to a waterfall and such
My family and I hiked a couple of trails Dark Hallow Falls and Rose River Falls that was marked fairly well but our hiking app easily showed the entire trails as well as the trail’s level of difficulty. I would recommend you visit the park website prior to your visit. Overall, it’s an Awesome Park and you should camp there for a couple of days just to see a small part of it. Park Staff was Very Nice and knowledgeable. It’s an Absolutely Must See for Hikers and anyone who loves the outdoors!!!!

You only need a day...or possibly two. Most views are similar. I stayed at a very nice primitive camp ground. HIKING Strenuous hike for Waterfalls. Lovely PARK ORGANIZATION The park is well organized with nice turnouts where you can park and see the views. The picnic areas are nice. CONSTRUCTION There was no notice of construction for road work. There is construction with a ton of gravel. I was concerned it would damage my vehicle so I decided on another route to leave the park. WELCOME CENTERS The staff needs additional training. They aren't knowledgeable about most of the trails like other parks
Beautiful vistas along the skyline drive. Breathtaking. Lots of trails too, if you want to do that. Elevation changes can be difficult if you are not used to them. Water and insect repellent are good things! I found things not as well marked for trail parking areas at times, but most are well marked. Might be easier from the Northside of the park then coming up from the south. Stayed overnight at one of the cabins at skyland. Peaceful and quiet. Speed limit is 35 mph. I don't know why you would want to go faster, just enjoy the beautiful views!
I didn’t realize how you can use this trail to travel from Virginia to North Carolina. Shenandoah valley is just so wonderful especially great for pictures when it’s sunset and of course the fog is amazing. Restrooms: Few stops between Dog-friendliness: Definitely great for nature walks with the animals Picnic area: They do have a few picnic areas as well as camping grounds
