On a cross-country bicycle tour, I called on Saturday the 8th day of October to talk to the chief about staying at the fire station, overnight. The woman who took my call at noon and then again at 5pm after hearing no return call from her never got back to me. So, on Sunday, I called again and got the Chief. When I asked the fire chief about staying at the fire department, he made the excuse that they were not a manned-24hour-facility. In response, I told him how other stations I had been to have let me stay at their volunteer stations when no one was there. The fire chief then hung up the phone on me. Thinking that maybe we just lost connection, I called him back, left a message, and he never returned my call. Out of all the stations I’ve traveled to, this guy has to take the cake for being one of the worst public service members I’ve encountered. Your town must not have a lot of options for good-quality fire chiefs, but this guy is not fit for the job.
