Sheridan station

Description

Sheridan is an 'L' station on the CTA's Red Line. It is an elevated station with two island platforms, located at 3940 North Sheridan Road, in the Wrigleyville neighborhood of Chicago's Lakeview community area. Sheridan is the closest 'L' stop to Graceland Cemetery, which is about one-half mile to the west on Irving Park Road. The Sheridan station is one of only two stations on the 'L' that is built on an S-curve, with Indiana on the Green Line being the other.HistoryPurple Line connectionsBeginning spring 2007 and lasting through 2009, northbound and southbound Purple Line Express trains stop at Sheridan before Chicago Cubs weekday night games in order to provide more service to nearby Wrigley Field. Previously, trains had stopped at the Addison station to the south but that station does not have platform access to the express tracks as Sheridan does, which required Purple Line trains to cross over to the Red Line tracks. In order to prevent this from adding to delays caused by the Brown Line reconstruction, the stop was moved to Sheridan. Recently, Inbound Express Purple Line has begun stopping at Sheridan as well as Wilson and Addison during the morning rush hour.

sheridan station will be renovated soon with steel bridges. Purple line express to Linden will also stop there anytime.
Charming because of how old it is, but in severe need of an overhaul because of how old it is. Only stairs, no elevator or escalator, not accessible. Floods whenever it rains hard. There is a small bodega attached to the station as well as a now closed due to the pandemic, coffeeshop.
Good location but needs updating. I agree the stairs are too narrow and steep. If you can avoid this stop I’d recommend it, especially during winter months. If the Wilson stop can get updates, this stop should be able to get some too. Only line that stops here is the red line.
Considering the age of this station, I don't think this station is as bad as others say it is. It's perfect, for avoiding the crowds of Addison one station south. And I love that Emerald City Coffee is accessible, from a door within the station house. I have no doubt that one day this station will be renovated, and Emerald Citya la the former Demon Dogs at Fullerton will more than likely get pushed out. So as so many of the unique businesses attached to L stations have sadly gotten kicked out in recent yearsi.e. the Thai restaurant at Central St.-Purple many years ago, enjoy them here while you still can. Also anyone who gives this station a 1 or 2 star review, has never experienced the awful pigeon poop filled north exit only stairway at Bryn Mawr. Or the really oldand underrated in how bad they are stations of Foster and also Noyes, on the Purple Line. Now all these 3 stations are WORSER to me, than Sheridan is! And unlike what another reviewer 1 year ago incorrectly said that only the Red Line stops here at all times, southbound Purple Line Express trains will ALSO stop here during the afternoon rush hour, ONLY on days Cub night games are scheduled. Northbound Purple Line Expresses do not stop here at any time, though.
It is one of the oldest most run down stops on the North Red Line. The original stairs are Rusty and too narrow for two way traffic during busy periods. The staff are rude and unhelpful. During heavy rain the stairs become a dangerous water fall! The purple line now stops at the updated Wilson stop, but that does not abate the other major issues here.
This station is one of the worst stops ever! It's easy for leaks to do their thing! Drip Drop! Other stuff, the Hall is Extremely narrow! The Beams that support the Station are Rusting and It's extremely Discusting and smelly
I am finding the ride to be extremely slow. This is supposed to be an express train. I remember when the purple line was much faster. I will be late to work CTA, thanks.
Very old station. Narrow hallways, stairs and double-sided platforms, and no accessibility. Leaks everywhere, crumbling concrete and rusty beams. Could probably survive a hundred years, but is about as bad as it gets for a big city transit station.
This stop is not handicap accessible. No elevator, no escalator, only stairs. This station services the red line "L" train only, the purple line does not stop here. The 151 Sheridan bus stops right in front, and the 80 Irving Park bus stops on the corner to the north.
Have to agree that this is one of the worst red line stations if not the worst considering Wilson is nearly renovated. Staff here is also less than helpful and unfriendly when they are not sleeping in the cage.
