I’ve been going to Thurmond for a couple of years now. Yes, I agree with some of the other reviewers who say the office staff isn’t the greatest not the nicest but they’ve always done a competent job with my insurance, no complaints there. But in my opinion, the doctors and optician are the ones who really matter. I’ve seen two different doctors, both super friendly and knowledgeable, but the superstar at this place is Jason, the optician. I’ve been wearing glasses for 36 years so I have lots of experience with this, and Jason is by far the most skilled optician I’ve ever encountered. He just knows what he is doing. None of this back and forth 10 times trying to get the glasses to sit properly if you have worn glasses for any length of time then you know exactly what I’m talking about. He looks at you, looks at the glasses, one or two adjustments and it’s done. I’ll keep going there as long as he works there, and when he leaves I’m going to want to know where he goes! My husband and daughter both go to Thurmond now as well based on my recommendation. Don’t let the negative reviews keep you away!
I used to love going here but not anymore. The glasses they sold me have the WORST glare on them and they blamed my insurance. I would have paid extra or out of pocket because they said anti glare costs extra. Of course I would have paid who wants frames they can’t use ? It makes no sense to sell someone frames with a glare. I’m highly disappointed will not be back and I do not recommend.
Not after reading reviews and asking questions like mandatory retinal picture so charge my insurance and find a way to charge patients for unnecessary things and sign for it no thank you. After reading reviews walked out of there before being seen or paperwork signed. I wish I read beforehand but atleast didn’t make the same mistake as others. Plus cost is required upfront before ordering two weeks until payday then wait another 2 weeks for glasses. I’d rather order on spot and pay at pickup in 2 weeks rather wait a month.I’ve never seen a place that doesn’t allow refusal of treatment for the $20 extra exam insurance won’t even pay. I did not leave a consent and left. I’m guessing they bought the machine and insurance doesn’t cover so they are trying to force others to help pay the cost off for buying it to begin with hence it’s mandatory sign here. No thank you I’m not concerned with my 16 yr old daughter needing that done. Americas best is much faster. I was hoping to stay local but not after this. Also read about not being able to get your own prescription eye numbers to go elsewhere that’s a issue based on reviews didn’t bother to ask if it were true in policy. My daughters glasses broke and needs glasses asap.If I were to lend advice I would say be for the customers and change policy for standard other places or business might not be in much longer. I didn’t even look at the cost of glasses there might be overpriced based on everything else in the rules.Hope this helps another. Sincerely mom of 5 kids.
I have a red eyes. So I go for a eye exam. Dr say nothing wrong with my eye. Turn out I have uvestis. Because of this I was delayed from my treatment. Thank you. Save your money
Been going there for a few years and never had any issues until today. Today none of the staff had any personality. No one smiled, it was just strictly business and the only conversation was short and abrupt. Even Dr. Dunnington was strictly all business, no pleasant talk, nothing. I was told nothing much had changed from last year and prescription hadn't changed. I had purchased two pair of glasses last year which are still in great condition, but I decided to purchase another pair of glasses anyway. The total would have been $489 which I was totally prepared to pay. When I asked if I could have a copy of my prescription and have my PD measurements, I was told that the PD measurement would cost me an additional fee of $25. I have never had to pay for this at any other eye doctor I have gone to. It takes a couple of seconds to measure and write down and they wouldn't do this for me with a charge. It wasn't that I couldn't pay the $25, to me it was the principle. I just decided not to purchase the glasses, paid for my visit, and left. I'm sure this a deterrent to keep you from ordering glasses at other places or online which I have never done, but I will do that from now on.
This place is sketchy, stay far away. Refused to tell me my prescription for my eyes when I originally went there. I since moved out of state and called for it because I'd like to buy 1 pair of cheap glasses online to ski with. I called and they said they can't tell me what my eye prescription is because it's their policy. They are really making this a monopoly to where I can only buy glasses from them or find a new doctor. Thanks for nothing.
Well first thing was i felt rushed and felt like i was just another paycheck here. Me and my wife both went to get eye exams in Aug 0f 2021. They messed up my prescription and my wife's. So after trying 2 or 3 times to get it right i just gave up and returned my glasses and my wife's. It took them up until the end of October to send our refund check after calling multiple times asking about it. Then i'm still trying to all of my benefits returned and it now Dec. if you have a choice of going somewhere else i would advise you to do that.
I have used Thurmond Eye Associates for over 10 years. Staff have always been pleasant and professional. No issues with lens prescriptions or glasses.
Do not go to this office. They lack in professional customer service. I tried to resolve a problem but was put on hold numerous times. My son was in the office and witnessed that I was put on hold for an extreme amount of time while they were sitting there doing nothing. They are not accommodating at all and do not care about their patients. They even lied about things that they were confronted on
Doctors are very nice however they add lots Of extras that your insurance doesn’t Cover without telling you ahead of time. So a visit that you think will not cost very much ends up being big bucks!!!! Very deceptive practice!!!
