Sherwood Forest is so much more than “just” a camp – it changes lives! Our programs are anchored in a month-long summer camp experience, but as a year-round youth development organization, Sherwood Forest offers both experiential adventures and evidence-based programs that reinforce and support school-year learning. In doing so, Sherwood Forest connects with, educates, and inspires the youth of St. Louis.
Sherwood Forest offers an environment of acceptance, support, self-discovery, and learning like no other. At Sherwood Forest, kids cultivate their individual interests and talents, immerse themselves in nature, and develop important life skills such as teamwork and responsibility.
Over 80% of the kids Sherwood Forest serves come from families living at or below the poverty line. Sherwood Forest provides comprehensive, year-round, year-after-year enrichment programs that many of these families could otherwise not afford.
The supportive, stable environment provided by Sherwood Forest has a long-term impact: 100% of kids who complete our Leadership Training Program go on to graduate from high school. Over the last 35 years, three-quarters of the Leadership Program alumni have gotten back in touch with Sherwood Forest, and 94% are now living economically self-sufficient lives. This creates a stronger community for all of us.
