Welcome to Shop Space! We're a community shop that provides tools, space, and the knowledge you need to execute your projects.
Opening Summer 2016!
THE CONCEPT
ShopSpace is a community metal shop that will provide a physical space to support and nurture public interest in arts, crafts and design. The space and programming will be accessible for users with a variety of skill and income levels. The space and organization will evolve based on interest and demand from patrons and supporters, novice to professional.
THE SPACE
Initial facilities feature a comprehensive metal shop, with a focus in forging and fabricating. Along with the public shop and workspace, classes and private consultation will be offered for all skill levels.
ShopSpace will be a staffed, state-of-the-art, well-maintained public workshop. A welcoming and safe environment for its members, ShopSpace will encourage access for all, regardless of skill level.
Flexibility and functionality will characterize the physical space, which will include workstations, teaching space, project storage and a tool resource area. Trained staff will be on hand during all open hours: greeting, supervising, supporting and teaching users as needed.
As future growth allows, ShopSpace will offer private studio space for people seeking ongoing access to the shop and community it creates.
NUTS & BOLTS
Group Classes: Initially metalworking classes for 2-5 people at a time.
Private Classes: One-on-one time with professional metal workers.
Meeting Space: Access to facilities for appropriate professional gatherings (example: ABANA meetings).
Consultation: Professional consultation and support on individualized/customized projects.
Group Coaching: Negotiable offsite work with groups of students, co-workers or others as team-building exercises.
ShopSpace is a dynamic community that offers access to tools, space, and the knowledge necessary to build, create, learn, and play. ShopSpace will be a multi-faceted organization with a physical space that celebrates and supports hands-on experiences with crafts that require resources, especially machinery, that are too large or costly to be readily available. We envision a space and culture that embraces all levels of expertise, encourages exploration, and builds connections within the community.
