Shubenacadie Provincial Wildlife Park

About

Celebrating more than 50 years of bringing nature to Nova Scotians!

Description

The Shubenacadie Provincial Wildlife Park is home to over 75 species of mammals and birds, mostly native to Canada with a few exotics. All of our animals cannot be released into the wild as their are either orphaned, permanently injured or were raised in captivity. The wide walkways through the park are easily accessible for strollers and wheelchairs, giving everyone an opportunity to see and learn about our amazing wildlife.

Visit the Wetland Centre and discover the wonders of wetlands. The Centre offers interactive displays, activities and a chance to look at live wetland amphibians and reptiles. Walk the wheelchair accessible path that winds nearly 1 km through the wetlands.

Stop by the 10 hectare picnic area which has sheltered tables, water taps and toilets plus lots of room for the children to run. Kids of all ages will enjoy the large playground. While there, hike down 1.5km (one way) into the Saint Andrew's Marsh for beautiful views of nature.

One of the best value attractions left in the world. Also, the time you can spend there and the quality of park make this such a deal. The visibility of the animals is also just as good as any other zoo I’ve been to but they were much more natural and the animals looked relaxed. Please continue to support this wonderful place. It hasn’t changed much since I was a kid but there have been improvements in the displays. I’ll be back.
I haven't been to Shubenacadie Provincial Park since I was a little girl and a lot has changed! The park is a fantastic place to take children. We went for a mid-day visit and found a lot of the animals were sleeping. If you want to see more activity from the animals I was advised to book my visit early in the morning, if possible, before the school children arrive for day trips. The park is nicely accessible for mobility challenged folks and strollers. Washrooms were clean and centrally located. Don't forget to bring your sunscreen, bug spray, and water. The vending machine for beverages charged $5 for pop and water! So come prepared! The staff were friendly and knowledgeable.
Lovely zoo, The animals seem super comfy & well taken care of. We caught the skunks, otters & porcupines at lunch time which was a treat : Most of the animals were relaxing/sleeping but it was nice to not see animals pacing or anxious like you do in other zoos! Also visited the wetlands centre yesterday and the young woman with dark hair @ cash was so sweet & welcoming with such a great attitude!! She definitely topped off a wonderful trip from PEI and played a big factor in my 5 star rating as well!
I don't even remember how we found this place, but we are so glad we did. Today was a bit chilly and overcast which was perfect - not many people out, and much cooler for the animals! We drove right in - no wait at all at the gate and tons of parking. Can't believe admission is under $5 for adults considering the size, beauty and quality of the park. Trails are marked clearly and there are plenty of maps around the park. Also appreciate the number of hand sanitizing stations and washrooms. Otters, wolves, raccoons and bears were a definite highlight for us. There were only a couple of animals we didn't get to see - enclosures are good size and well taken care of. We were really impressed with the overall quality of the park. Don't know that we would buy food from the snack trailer again - just wasn't what we were expecting but others seemed to really be enjoying the ice cream and cotton candy. Because of the reasonable rates, we will be back many, many more times. Another price of feedback is to encourage visitors to have change on hand - I was sad to miss out on feeding the ducks!
This is my third time visiting this beautiful spot. The staff are super friendly and helpful. A lots to see and learn, best to come around feeding time to get to see the animals out, 12pm to 2pm ishVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
A Place and conservation area is good and wide. We visited in winter hours, so there were not much animals to see. Would believe that it should in Summer time/hours
Good place for spending some time with kids. A lot of animals, they live in close to wild environments and look happy. Here you can find a lot of spots for lunch. All clean, all is well.
We had fun wandering around this park. I love that all the animals are rescues. All the Canadian classics bear, beaver, porcupine, raccoon and some extra. We were disappointed the moose hid while we were there. Would recommend. Kids had fun.
We had a really nice time with our four year old : He enjoyed the walk, and saw lots of animals! Staff were super friendly and helpful, grounds were very clean.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
